They’ve now went and bought delegator :!:

Is it not a strange policy to spend a large fortune on a good horse who might look (to many) as if he’s had his best chances and not quite capitalised on them? Is the hope that Mr Suroor can find a key to him which Mr Meehan has missed? We can only wish them luck.

Would they not be better making offers on classic generation horses with potential who might be improving types on the soft, and in autumn? Border Patrol, for example, springs to mind as the type they should be targeting (though I sincerely hope he at least is

    not

    for sale!!)

If Elite get a fat check they will flog Border Patrol, nice horse, a group horse in the making.

As for Delegator, his courage is something I question, his sire was the same, a dirty great big girls blowse who wouldnt get down and dirty to win a race, good sire but still a filthy coward.

Godolphins buying spree is becoming abit of a "oh bugger we are crap go out and buy the competition", sack the training team..

I haven’t a clue what they think Pinza. If i was to have a guess i think they would be thinking something along the lines of "who cares if it dosen’t work out we will just buy another one".

As people have said on here a hell alot of these horses get bought with adding speed to the breeding side of things, which i know nothing about.

People say all these Arabs should get credit for putting so much into the game. I’m sure Paulo Stermeyer(a poster on here) said he saw a programme once that highlighted the disgraceful way that workers are treated over there, many of them no doubt employed by the Sheikh. Maybe they should start treating their employees as well as they treat their horses.

If Delegator was for sale (and he obviously was!), would it be in the owners interest to offer him to more than one party in order to get the highest fee possible? This is the trouble with the Godolphin operation, there is no bottom line, whatever they have to pay, they will pay, and it doesn’t matter whether the cost is justifiable in terms of revenue likely to be gained.

If the horse was offered for sale to Godolphin, then surely it must have been offered for sale to Coolmore. One is a hugely successful business, one is a rich man’s toy. It’s no wonder why one is so much more successful than the other.

I know Godolphin can go on spending sprees buying mutiple number of horses but they dont buy horses until the end of the turf season for the following year. Has anyone known godolphin buy horses halfway through a season? Its the first time that I have known them to. Godophin buying horses midway through the season is like admitting failure. Does anyone think that they are panicking a little? Who are thet going to buy next? The way that there season are going dont be suprised if they start buying up in september when all their plans continue to go belly-up.

I wouldn’t know what plans are for horses etc, but does anyone think Delegator would go for the Breeders Cup mile ?

Id be amazed if Delegator wins a race all season.

So typical of Godolphin, What they need is a shake up from top to bottom, Mainly the Jockey and the Trainer.

Sheikh Mo is very good for British horse racing. SM and his bro’s bring a lot of the best bloodstock to our shores. With all bar Cheively Park of owner breeders all but gone. We need them like never before to maintain our place in the wopld of racing.

Am I right, that what "we" have against the Godolphin crowd:
Is not them buying these horses; it’s moving the horses to other stables once they’ve bought them?

It’s one thing saying you don’t think Bin Suroor is a good trainer, or Sheikh Mo moving his horses. Quite another grouping all arabs together like some seem to have done.

What has Sheikh Hamdan or Khalid Abdulla done that is so wrong?

Sheikh Hamdan and Prince Khalid have done nothing wrong, Mark, but then again they don’t allow other trainers to bring along successful juveniles before shipping them to Godolphin and nor do they throw blank cheques at the very best horses around before allowing Bin Suroor to ruin them.

As for Sheikh Mohammed only buying during the winter, didn’t he secure shares in New Approach and Ravens Pass mid-season?

What their stock do for British racing is undoubtedly a positive – though that is under the Darley banner, not Godolphin – but as a racing entity I could happily do without them.

The programme about those workers in Dubai was (I believe) a Panorama programme. Anyone remember that Panorama programme about racing? With the sacked Jockey Club employee as the "whistleblower". I have great difficulty believing anything Panorama put out after that "investigation".

There is a fine line between what Godolphin are trying to do and on a smaller scale, Clive Smith does in the National Hunt game. Was it wrong for him (or his / Nicholls agents); to buy up two of the most promising young French breds, and bring them to race for another trainer in Britain?

Rakti was perhaps one of the best Italian trained horses since Ribot, before he was bought by Tanaka and sent to Michael Jarvis. Why is that so different? Tanaka has bought quite a few established horses over the years. I believe the American owner of Red Rocks has done the same over there.

Yet it seems to be only Godolphin / Sheikh Mo that gets the bad press.

If the arguement is that Bin Surror should be replaced by Bin Shafiya, then I would agree. But, Sheikh Mo and his clan are very loyal people.

If someone has that much money, then things they care about (like having the best horses) are worth more to them than it would be to anyone else. So they therefore are willing to pay more than anyone else. I don’t here the sellers complaining. It may be hard on those trainers who lose out, but that is the nature of the sport, any owner has the right to put a horse with the owners he / she prefers.

Though whether they would get better results keeping them with their original trainer, is another thing entirely.

Maybe they should rename their racing entity "Darley", then  .

Cynical as ever about Elite, I see!

As a matter of fact they were offered a very fat one indeed for Soviet Song, after the 2002 Fillies Mile, and did not bite. That’s more than just a rumour.

Of course, she was a potential broodmare, and the breeding programme is at the heart of Elite members’ interests. A colt is a different matter, and standing a stallion would definitely be a new direction. Therefore a different decision might be taken, but as matters stand Elite is in need of a stable star above and beyond the cash nexus.

Some things, Mr Y-Pudding, are beyond your notions of cost-benefit to the man who owns the Club.

Mate, i was in the club from SS from being a yearling, I was in the crowd at HQ when she cantered crowd down too post in the guienas, when she went too make her move in that race but the equine flue that had ravished her too its toll. We got beaten by a champion miler, a BC mile winner, a multep grade one winner in the US, probalbly the best guineas of recent years.

We were bloody robbed of title of champion two yearold filly having dished out a drubbing too ill bred mule Airwave on debut, in that race we cut though the field, airwave came at us but SS hit after burners and it was all over.

I didnt feel that the allocation of badges wasnt fair and that the same people seemed too be getting the badges, a complant i many others say.

The club got too big in terms of members and it lost some of its charicter, I felt lost on the crowd so I left after SS’s foyr yearold season, it what happens too racing syndicates/ clubs when they get too big.
