I’ll be out of the country during festival week (and after the last two years which as been carnage for me thank goodness)

For punters who are hoping to make a score during the week be warned. Not only do you have to contend/factor in Dark Horses and Stable Coups during selection, you also have to outwit the official handicapper (I assume in the handicap events)<br>Smith [BHB senior handicapper] was speaking to an invited audience at the unveiling of the Festival weights. “We are always trying to set a puzzle that the punters find difficult to solve,â€ÂÂ

I thought the whole point of handicapping was every horse should be allotted a weight that means every horse finishes together. In theory, of course.

These type of comments almost beggar belief …

It’s irrelevant what he thinks or wants as everyone has the same information at the end of the day.

I’d rather see a 50-1 shot win by ten lengths than a driving finish with several horses together at the line.
