I`d agree the programme could do with tighter editing but it is an early morning effort and can still be pretty good when they get the mix of presenter and contributors right ( seems to be a rare occasion these days but face it we get diminishing returns with everything).Seeing the delightful frozen grin of Lesley Graham is not a good start to anyone`s morning ( myopic Barry Dennis apart it seems).
I think it compares quite favourably to other sport magazine type programmes ( like that recent bilge with GabbyYorath, The Cricket Roadshow etc)
I hope it continues, and with reasonable contributions from Hoyles, Machin ,Luck etc supporting Francome, McGrath,McCririck and Down ( when he can get up in time) it can still be quite good.
July 17, 2007 at 14:28 #108244Doesnt Tania need more of a role in the show she does very little although her knowledge is excellent.
July 17, 2007 at 17:10 #108267Broadly agree, Steve, but for as long as it’s decreed that the show thrives on the particular dynamic of having McCririck denigrating her for prolonged periods, nothing much is going to change.

July 17, 2007 at 17:14 #108269Bur as i said on an earier post Emma Spencer did nothing on Saturday mainly because they had a guest, they did talk more racing this week but surely one less "Emma Spencer" a week they could put more money into other elements of the production ie Mike Cattermole said the C4 crew had to get from Newmarket Friday to York for early Saturday with the equipment if they had less "presenters" they could afford a larger crew. I mean you sometimes get presenters on the morning line who arent even presenting on the main show in the afternoon are they not capable of doing both.
July 17, 2007 at 17:40 #108274there isn’t a racing radio station
I’m led to believe that:
covers nearly all of UK and Irish racing, afternoon and evenings.
Not on DAB, admittedly, but on t’internet and by phone.
July 17, 2007 at 17:42 #108275Be good to have on one dab or am/fm then if you wanna listen while driving or you feel lousy cant be bothered with the telly but they never will to much money in phone lines.

That is does. I’m a bit of a convert already.

July 18, 2007 at 14:44 #108404im not sure that racing is really a radio sport but 5 live treat it with contempt
They have massively increased coverage of athletics (bent and boring) and the biggest hyped up rubbish of all …Formula one (what is there to talk about ?) yet dropped racing altogetehr
July 18, 2007 at 15:29 #108409Clive,
I think you’ll find people view Racing in the same way – F1 is a sport you need to follow and understand to some degree to really get into it. Same applies to horse racing for me, most people would find a race in isolation boring if they a) Didn;t really understand the race format, participants, jockeys role and b) Don’t have a financial interest in the race..
July 18, 2007 at 16:14 #108413Clive,
you call athletics bent. what do you think the majority of peoples view of racing is in this regard? its hardly been racking up the positive press of late!July 18, 2007 at 16:41 #108420true but there is far more to discuss in the world of racing than in F1 or athletics surely
The posers who i have known to be into f1 (and strangely never seem to like other sports) are seemingly totally unable to communicate whatever it is that is interesting about their "sport"
July 18, 2007 at 17:07 #108421I used to watch F1 until I realised just how pointless it had become to win pole position or ast pit stops. You cant really overtake whats the point. F1 is now for people who can make car engines and parts superior ie the driver aint important its the techno people.
