Game of Thrones would have been my choice. I used to watch every episode several times, first time without the commentary, then with and the third time to rewatch all the things that had been mentioned in the commentary. Everything about it, to me, was perfect. Dialogue, scenery, costumes, music. But after season eight I haven’t rewatched a single episode. I don’t think I’ve even watched season eight with the commentaries. No longer recommend it to people. I was obsessed with The Terror last year. Watched it several times (mainly to work out what the hell was going on) and then watched everything I could find about it. What was so exciting was that they’d recently found the actual ship so there was footage of the wreck. I don’t think I’d like to watch it if I was on my own on a desert island, though!

I agree “Spiral” is a fantastic series.

Desert Island choice: The Killing – this was the first “Scandi” series I watched and that got me more interested in any other offerings that were available from Europe.

The Icelandic offering “Trapped” is another good series.

I haven’t seen The Wire or any of those subsequently discussed

Favourite series recently has been ‘Vienna Blood’ and currently ‘The Tourist’ which four episodes in is proving to be satisfyingly strange

Desert Island series would be ‘The Singing Detective’

Ok. Not a mini series as such but Afterlife has been quite uniquely wonderful

I reckon only gervais could have pulled this off. It’s extremely rare for tv to be so moving

The third series didn’t perhaps start so well but the last two episodes were extraordinary and the last quite beautiful

There were many discreet angles under the veneer of the main story too but without doubt the bench scenes with the brilliant Penelope Wilton are now iconic tv history

Also do NOT read reviews of the series. The public have gone quite mad for it (over 100 million viewers worldwide) but Gervais has always taken on the smug media crowd.

In the latest series there are strong accurate digs at snobby and simpleton Guardian readers and disgusting cold happy clappy yoga types. And there is a wonderful vignette surrounding an amateur author with a couple of lovely points subtly made

All these things geared to send the media critics into fits

And thats why he’s a class act

Another one I really enjoyed was Money Heist (La Casa de Papel). It’s
Spanish and you can listen to it dubbed on Netflix, but I prefer it with
sub-titles. It’s fast moving, clever and heart warming at times. I can’t
get that song, Bella Ciao, out of my head. It’s a terrific series :good:

I’m with you on Money Heist Graham was absolutely hooked on it so clever and it twisted and turned all over the place.

You introduced me to Ozark on Netflix last year which I also loved..it took me about 3 episodes to get into it but well worth the wait, new series coming soon along with Peaky Blinders although it won’t be the same without Helen McCrory who played Polly and sadly died of cancer age 52, she was married to Damien Lewis who starred in Homeland another addictive series.

Have to agree with Moehat at about Game Of Thrones .. was totally addicted to it up to series 7 and then it started to wain. I wont give the ending away but everyone knows it was not what the fans were hoping for..totally killed it.

I went to Belfast to take the Game Of Thrones Locations Tour at the height of it’s popularity, the Iron Islands location at Ballintoy on the Causeway Coast were my favourite it is beautiful. I would guess now that these tours are few and far between unless there is a spin-off made built around Arya Stark.
Yet to get around to it but my daughter also a GOT fan says that The Wheel Of Time on Amazon Prime might capture our imaginations while we wait. :rose: Jac

I’m not sure that I can face watching Peaky Blinders without Aunt Polly. My dads family came from that part of Birmingham and my uncle used to be in The Garrison football team.We met someone at a racing club meeting whose mum remembered the Peaky Blinders. I know in the grand scheme of things the GOT’s finale isn’t very important but I’ve never loved a series so much. Several friends wouldn’t believe me when I said how brilliant it was but I continued to sing it’s praises until the last series and I haven’t recommended it to anyone since.

Afterlife lives with you days after

The final scene is the most poignant I’ve ever seen on tv (and interestingly the finale of the office was close). Has to be seen after full series though and as with right through the episodes there’s a wonderful angle that is not immediately picked up

    Gervais is just brilliant

No wonder the series has blown everyone away

Ok, bit worried about putting this one up, but, although I’m not into horror
(which this isn’t) or into particular gore films which to an extent this
one is, but not in the usual demonic way.

The series is Santa Clarita Diet and to be honest I watched the 1st episode
with Mrs BigG and I said to the good lady, I don’t think this one is going to
be for us but we persevered and after about a couple of episodes, it’s not
about the gore it’s actually about a family and the way they come to deal
with things. I won’t give anything away, but we watched all 3 series, it
is hysterical at times and Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, who are
husband & wife, and both realters, bounce off each other perfectly.
The extended family and neighbours are terrific characters too. So you
can screw your eyes up a bit at times, but this is really good :good:

I haven’t seen the wire. I did watch Bates Motel a while ago but stopped half way through – they stretched the plot out until it became tedious. I gave up on The Tourist – too contrived for me.
