As i said – all trainers have regressive horses. Knowhere doesn’t seem to be ruined – if (by some miracle) you owned horse who you thought attractively weighted for The National would you not be tempted to get involved? I know i definately would, maybe ‘next year’ will never come.

    I think you’re cherry picking.

When I studied the Grand National last year for my 100% book I obviously alowed for jumping ability. Not many horses were considered poor jumpers of park fences but Fundamentalist and Ardaghey even had the dreaded X from Timeform for being poor jumpers! Naunton Brook sometimes jumped o.k. when he could get to the front, but when taken on usually made mistakes. Knowhere made mistakes in largish fields in both the Gold Cup and Boylesports Gold Cup, either side of a win in a small field in the Cotswold Chase. How is this cherrypicking? Very few other horses in the field had as bad a chance of getting around than Twister’s four.

Before the National in his novice year Knowhere jumped terribly on his previous two starts. As I say connections too a big risk in running at Aintree, one not many trainers would have taken.

There is a huge diference between running a horse like Knowhere and Gwanako (another novice) over the National fences as he jumped exceptionally well at Cheltenham. And carried my money to victory.

One thing Twister does is run his horses when there is obviously something wrong with the yard. He’s been in awful form for some time, yet still ran his horses. Where as some trainers would shut up shop.

With a few signs of a return to form recently. It is to be hoped those who showed early promise such as Ballyfitz and Buck The Legend and Pettifour come back to their best. I do think running them when not right can destroy their enthusiasm and confidence. Imperial Commander has only had one run since, in the King George when travelling well for a long way. Very effective fresh, so am hopeful at least he could do well this coming week.

Anyone know what’s happened to Pigeon Island?
