In theory the UK Tote bets to lower figures than the SP in larger fields!

Turnover in the Win and place pools remain very weak, this is despite overseas betting operations going straight into the pool ie Racing international (South Africa), Equinella (Andalucia-Spain), Global tote (east bloc), German tote etc!

on a typical midweek race 5-6K appears to be the average bet on the win pool, during the weekend i noticed races where averaging out between 8-10K…………..isn`t this very poor? Is their any hopes for the tote with this type of bet?

How much are the UK tote takeouts? (i have it in my head that the win pool was 16%, is that the case).

I was looking at the Irish tote which is far less informative (it looks like an organisation for these charity racenights where potential dividends remain a secret), is this the case?, any idea of their takeout? and what can we expect in their win pool?

I`m in Puerta Banus as i write and the local Betting shop (Latinos) feeds directly into the pool using the services of Equinella (Master licence for offering horseracing throughout Andalucia)…………..just got me thinking whilst i was in their drinking my coffee !!

UK Tote site indicates a take-out of 13.5 per cent on the win pool and 18 per cent on the place pool (click penultimate link Pool deductions):

    http://www.totesport.com/totesport/help … lRules.htm

Irish Tote is said (source unfamiliar but seems informed ) to take out 20 per cent on both win and place pools:

    http://www.bettingmarket.com/eriesinnen090101.htm

Jackpot, Placepot, etc seem to be between variously 25 and 30 per cent take-out.

That information looks out of date to me, although the link seems to work; Tote take out on Win pools was reduced to 10% in 2001 or 2002. I’d be horrified if they’d put it back up again.

    Thanks for that!

I`m of the opinion that the UK takeouts are as the link suggests, however, i can`t see the logic in taking a bigger deduction from the place pool than the win!!

With regards to Ireland, i was totting up a few races yesterday and usually landed around 125-126% suggesting a 20% deduction is about right……….think the pools are weak though?

    hi rory

don’t know about 10 per cent in 2001/2 – it seems that on 17 March 2003 the Tote issued a press release announcing:

"hugely reduced deductions in its Win and Place pools……. The deduction from the Place pool is reduced by a quarter from 24% to 18% and the deduction from the Win pool is more than 15% lower, moving from 16% to 13.5%, making it the lowest Win pool deduction of any major racing nation in the world. The new rates apply from this Thursday, 20th March to coincide with the start of the new turf flat season."

Cheers Wit. Was sure it was even lower than that (10% Win and 12% Place) but perhaps that was a promotional push for one of the big festivals.
