Sir Henry Cecil asked in an interview after the Locking what is to be gained by stretching his horse to a mile and two?If he was serious then he shoud retire his horse. However his smug arrogance with such a question was downright patronising to the non royalty who follow racing for the love of it.How was the poor unnighted interviewer to respond to such a brash comment?
July 27, 2011 at 14:17 #19268Frankel is one of the greatest horses in history. Anyone going to deny it now? Who else has done that to Canford Cliffs? Incredible horse, end of. anyone denying it is purely in denial.
July 27, 2011 at 14:19 #365988you can guarantee someone will …
July 27, 2011 at 14:25 #365991I am always skeptical of the Best Racehorse Ever that seems to come out of Europe every year…but this horse is as close to being worthy of that title as I’ve seen.
His stride reminds me of the late great Skip Away.
July 27, 2011 at 14:25 #365992That wasn’t the Canford that beat Goldikova. You think Canford Cliffs is just 2 lengths better horse than Rio De La Plata? Good luck making that argument.
Just sayin’ …July 27, 2011 at 14:27 #365993That wasn’t the Canford that beat Goldikova. You think Canford Cliffs is just 2 lengths better horse than Rio De La Plata? Good luck making that argument.
Just sayin’ …He was broke mate taken completely out of his comfort zone.
July 27, 2011 at 14:31 #365995told ya somebody would
get over it …he lost , accept it …
How many more has this horse got to beat , best current sprinter (probably) , best miler and the king george winner …..
Every race his had one of the others ‘didnt turn up ‘
Jeezzzz
July 27, 2011 at 14:38 #366003He carried my money extremely well !!

July 27, 2011 at 14:42 #366005Jim McGrath was suggesting there must have been something wrong with Canford Cliffs because he came under pressure quite early and then hung across the track and Richard Hannon was trying to blame the track but the inescapable conclusion is that Frankel broke Canford Cliff’ heart there. I wouldn’t be surprised if that leaves a real mark on Canford Cliffs as he’s been made to look ordinary.
Henry Cecil is certainly not someone to go overboard but I thought it was revealing that he said in the post-race interview that he has expected Frankel to win easily before the race but didn’t like to voice that opinion out of respect for Canford Cliffs. He also effectively said Frankel is the best horse ever!
On that showing, you would have to say there aren’t going to be any concerns about riding tactics in the future. I think you can basically ride the horse however you like and he’ll still win.
We’re privileged to have witnessed such a performance. As Pinza said on another thread, there’s something spiritual about watching a horse exult in his ability the way Frankel does.

Deny it as much as you want, but Canford is far better than two lengths in front of RdlP. He ran at least 6lb below form today.
July 27, 2011 at 14:49 #366008In ten years time we will all realise how lucky we are. Embrace it why you can folks this is a once in decades thing Frankel is one of the very best ever to set hoof on a racetrack. For gods sake just enjoy it its what we all crave, we are so, so lucky.

Racing Daily’s point is a valid one.
Frankel has beaten Rio De La Plata, an exposed six year-old with an official rating of 120, by seven and a half lengths; that puts him in the mid-130s. While there’s almost certainly more to come (I think that Frankel barely got out of second gear today), on the strict form he isn’t among the greats yet.
However, I have no doubt whatsoever that he would be capable of beating any horse put in front of him over a mile; I’m not quite old enough to remember Brigadier Gerard but my previous top trio of milers was El Gran Señor, Zilzal and Mark Of Esteem. Frankel would, in my opinion, have that lot for breakfast.
July 27, 2011 at 14:53 #366010Deny it ? im not 10 )))
i used to be like that when my namesake used to get beaten by monksfield , sea pigeon etc every year at Cheltenham
Luckily i grew out of it
why dont you just accept this is a top horse and not just go back to the ‘well he wouldnt have beaten him by that far if he was in top condition’ type arguement

CC lost today, and until he actually defeats Frankel we can safely say that Frankel is better than him. The results of head-to-head match-ups are always more accurate than arbitrary ratings. Horses prove themselves at the winning post, not at the Racing Post.
July 27, 2011 at 15:00 #366012Rio De La plata at his best is rated 120 although I have him 118. That makes Frankel 133 which is the highest rating I’ve ever given a horse and I’ve been doing this since 1989. Canford anmd the French horse’s ratings are in line too. Sometimes you just have to admit you’ve seen greatness.
July 27, 2011 at 15:03 #366013Frankel far superior today and would of won fair enough off levels on that performance. Hannon expressed concerns about Goodwood last year so credit for taking in this race. Would like to see a rematch in the QE2 at Ascot.

This was quite a maiden in hindsight:
Newmarket (July) Result
13 Aug 2010
6:35 European Breeders’ Fund Maiden Stakes(Class 4) (2yo) 1m Soft
£4,533.20, £1,348.90, £674.10, £336.701 Frankel
7/4F 2 9-3 Sir Henry Cecil
Tom Queally
Dwelt, held up, headway over 2f out, led inside final furlong, shaken up and ran on, readily (op 13-8 tchd 11-8)
2 ½ Nathaniel (IRE)
3/1 2 9-3 John Gosden
William Buick
Chased leader until led over 2f out, ridden over 1f out, headed inside final furlong, ran on (op 7-1)
3 5 Genius Beast (USA)
15/2 2 9-3 Mahmood Al Zarooni
Ahmed Ajtebi
Chased leaders, outpaced over 2f out, stayed on to go 3rd well inside final furlong (op 11-2 tchd 8-1)
Canford Cliffs
has never had to go that fast from three to two furlongs out.
Frankel
broke him today. And he wasn’t even out of second gear at the point he did it.
When
Henry Cecil
says that this is the greatest horse he’s ever seen, and when
Khaled Abdullah
says he’s the best he’s ever owned (not excepting
Dancing Brave
) then I think we need to be gracious about the result and admit that the best horse won.
Richard Hannon
did himself no favours today with his curmudgeonly post-race comments.
