I was having a look at the early betting for this race and an old pal of mine caught my eye.
Fast Or Free won at the meeting last year and in doing so did me a favour for the second time in a row. That was in The Brittania but his target this time seems to be The Royal Hunt Cup. He is sitting at 16/1 right now and although he has the lay-off to overcome and stable form that has been uninspiring, he has some things to recommend him. He seemed to improve well last year and I believe he won his races with plenty in hand. I had him marked down as a horse who could move to group company eventually and he surely could improve at four. He also has track form and won in a 29 runner race, not a bad feat on only his fourth start.
I would like the stable to be in better form but it might be worth taking a chance at the price now and hope that Willie Haggas gets into form for Royal Ascot and has the feelers out for a good, old fashioned plot with this unexposed contender.
Fast Or Free 16/1 with Ladbrokes, Stan James and others, only 12/1 with Paddy Power and Coral.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

June 3, 2013 at 15:09 #441701There’s a few i’m interested in but they could have other engagements. However, Educate would seem ideal for the race and he beat Sheikhzayedroad easily last time and that’s just won well at Epsom. Goes on any ground and i like small stables that can target a race.
Redact is a four year old who might be well handicapped after a fairly mediocre 3yr old campaign.
June 3, 2013 at 19:52 #441731The Paul Cole trained Gifted Girl looks sure to go close in this.
Ran an excellent second to Thistle Bird in a Group 3 at Epsom last time out and before that won a valuable Ascot handicap easily by 5 lengths. Paul Cole is just a shadow of the force he once was in racing, but in Gifted Girl I think he has a horse to put him back on the map.June 4, 2013 at 13:35 #441764That’s one i’ve shortlisted but wouldn’t be confident about it lining up – they might be tempted at something else
June 11, 2013 at 16:45 #442506Just as i thought, Gifted Girl no longer in the Hunt Cup
( can we move this thread to the Ascot 2013 forum ? )

Yeah. Looks like the horse is off to the States for the Beverly D at Arlington Park. The trainer has won the race before. Can’t remember the name of the horse?
Gone for Don’t Call Me now from the D.Nicholls yard. A bit exposed but finished third last year and always runs well at Ascot.
June 13, 2013 at 14:58 #442660Fast Or Free is out of the race along with Emilio Largo. That is at least four of the original co-favs out of it. Remind me why ante-post is a good thing again LOL
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 17, 2013 at 22:16 #443067I like the look of Lady Rothschild’s £3,000,000 mare, Trade Commissioner.
Also, Stoute’s Tales of Grimm. His stable must be full of horses he’s anxious to make up for lost time with, having experienced such a bad patch last year.
June 18, 2013 at 10:39 #443097Trade Commissioner is a gelding Grimes.

June 19, 2013 at 13:25 #443249I’ve got a feeling Fury will run a huge race down to a mark of 100 (he won off 104 last time in a handicap). A decent high draw and lots of experience in these cavalry charges. I thought he was worth an each way nibble.
June 24, 2013 at 13:02 #443879Wow! It surely can’t have been when it was bought, Steve.
