No offence to anyone, but i reckon my question is being roundly ignored – was Jack The Giants singularly best performance not his 3rd to MWDS in the Arkle on genuinely soft ground?
November 13, 2008 at 01:49 #189473The answer to your question is ‘No’……………because the ground wasn’t "genuinely soft" that day. Claisse is a lying bas*tard.
November 13, 2008 at 01:53 #189474Now thats an explanation which i can accept, in fact i thought it the only one plausible. Presumably the finishing times bear this out?
Only one reason i doubt that theory – always had MWDS down as needing cut, especially over 2m against the speedsters.

He will go on most ground to be honest.
He has won on quite heavy ground, soft ground, but can also go on good ground too.
November 13, 2008 at 02:11 #189476The speed boys at the RP have the time-based ground as Gd/Sft. Also the official going was changed to Gd/Sft after the Champion Hurdle. And the Arkle was run faster than standard.
No chance that the ground was soft.
November 13, 2008 at 02:11 #189477I’ll re-phrase – bit of cut slows him down less than most, so i’d assumed (edit – as the official report seemingly wrongly states) it must have been genuinely soft for him to have beat the speedsters over 2m.
If i’m wrong i’m wrong – I would have ran of fingers and toes to count years ago Gaz.
November 13, 2008 at 02:12 #189478David – that appears to have cleared it up, cheers.

Im not saying you’re wrong.

Im not egotistical my friend and certainly just because i say something, i dont think im correct, it is just my opinion, just saying that he goes on most ground, and like you say, a bit of cut doesnt seem to hamper him as much as others.
November 13, 2008 at 02:32 #189483Nicely put, cheers.
November 13, 2008 at 18:15 #189568The ground is apparently drying out – but Jack the Giant is withdrawn regardless.
November 13, 2008 at 18:43 #189570somewhat off topic, but I wasn’t sure where else to ask – will the majority of bookmakers in the ring this weekend at Cheltenham accept € bets, or do I need to get to a bank quickly?!
ThanksNovember 13, 2008 at 19:02 #189574as Barbers Shop is now running maybe it would have been an embarrassment if Jack the Giant had beaten him….
November 13, 2008 at 19:54 #189580Most will take Euro’s The Dice Man – you’ll be paid out in Euro’s too mind so for beers etc. you will need pound sterling.

ThanksWhy not just use your Euro (I presume Irish) Bankcard in England? There will be some small charges but that’s preferable than carrying lots of cash, especially if you’re having a few beers.
November 13, 2008 at 22:19 #189601Surprised to see Maljimar drift to 17 on betfair and he looks overpriced at that. Plenty of pace could set the race up for one with a similar style to him and this has long since been the target. Needs to improve but his profile is one that suggests he can and he clearly goes well fresh and at the track.
November 13, 2008 at 22:19 #189602Am sure you are right Moehat – with going now officially G/S, i do feel slightly mislead regarding connections reasons for Jack the Giants removal. Thats A/P life is suppose.
November 13, 2008 at 22:38 #189605There is one i like the look of, if he manges to get in and that is Possol of Henry Daly’s.
Will go well if there is a decent gallop on. Might want the ground a bit faster, and on the good side of good-to-soft, however, will be interesting to see if he manages to get in, especially off his handicap mark.
Possol, possibly, for me.
