What a storming race we are going to get tomorrow!

Some of the best sprinters over 5f will be doing battle down this testing course and it will take a good un to bring home the ‘lolly’.

For me we have 2 divides: The up and coming youngster Pearl Secret[/color:2nhcwykc] who I know is very strongly fancied and todays rain will help greatly, but despite Margot winning this last year I still have my doubts that 3yo’s are strong enough against their elders! However, the word i received was very strong and I took some 7s to a win bet!

Then we have the older set of campaigners; Bated Breath surely will miss out again due to the rain, you never know what sort of race Dandy Boy is going to throw in, Spirit Quartz is my 5f horse to follow next season, Ortensia had his day LTO so that leaves SOLE POWER [/color:2nhcwykc]who i like a lot!

Don’t blink or you’ll miss the race :D

Without knowing how much rain actually hits the course between now and race time, I will probably sit the race out.

However, Ortensia’s win under a penalty last time gives her a form edge. Providing the ground does not get too soft she is the one they have to beat but she is a shorter price against stiffer opposition.

Pearl Secret won at Sandown despite the way the race unfolded. His trainer has brought him along steadily and he is open to the most improvement in the field.

Sole Power and Bated Breath are closely matched but they look vulnerable, especially on rain-softened ground.

A race that often throws up a surprise but I think Ortensia and Pearl Secret can fight out the finish with a marginal preference for the former provided the going does not get too soft.

I have backed Ortensia at 7/1 and again at 6/1. The rain that fell at York today was only exceeded by the tears that were streaming down my face as I saw her chance possibly being washed away down the Knavesmire drainage system.

Given proper quick ground I was confident she would win this and was going to cover with Bated Breath in a "Don Revie" forecast, as I saw him very hard to imagine out of the frame on fast ground.

Pearl Secret could be anything but at fav or near fav with most bookies now, I must question his class thus far and his value.

If you see someone at York with large tarpaulins and the world’s biggest dehumidifier, do not be alarmed!!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

If an outsider is to win, my choice is Bogart. And I don’t think he’s even run over five. Maybe one or two.

Small stakes on Pearl Secret, he’s the unknown quantity with the potential for big improvement and David Barron’s comments have to be noted.

The rain we’ve had will not have done the other 3 market leaders any favours either, would love to see BB win…..if my selection doesn’t of course!

Get in there you Aussie beaut!!

Three winners and a third so far today at York and I just played up my winnings big style on Ortensia. :D

I’ve just about paid for my York trip. Another winner and that will be Ascot covered. 8)

Didn’t the Aussie finish! Made up a tremendous amount of ground; much more than any other horse in the race. Hamish got in the frame at his beloved Knavesmire.

Not that it is a "mire" today. Did Ortensia’s trainer try and put us away in the morning? He’d walked the course and called it Australian Heavy. Couldn’t be more negative about the ground, yet all races bar the slowly run Gimcrack today have beaten standard time, and even that not far off. I know the rail on the round course ws moved in, but even so… The going is genuinely good, not on the soft side at all. Ortensia has proven form on the soft side of good in his native country anyway, though (obviously) not heavy looking at Newmarket.

Australian going reports are no doubt a bit different to ours, but our "good" is surely not their "heavy".

Sorry, this post sounds too negative. Didn’t mean it to be.

Ortensia is a grand looking mare, very impressed when I saw her at Goodwood. Great result for the Aussies and for me.

Great result for a damn good sprinter. Usually doesn’t go well on rain affected ground but there you go she seems to be bringing her good form lately and it’s enough to get the job done over there.

For everyone who thought/thinks Black Caviar was disappointing and overrated after seeing her at Ascot – Ortensia is 6-7 lengths inferior to BC when both are at their best. If she was at her best at Ascot I think she wins by 6-8 lengths on the bridle….and her reputation remains intact and Frankel comparisons are justified.

I suspect we might have another superstar back home called Pierro. Having said that he will now race like a donkey and make me look silly. Till the next Aussie goes to England to kick pommie butt I bid you all safe travels and happy times!
