I thought it was a cracking day’s racing.

    Looking forward to tomorrow.

I’ve only just caught up with it all as I was out this afternoon mostly and I thought it was great and there’s too much negativity in racing, today showed it in a great light and we’re shaping up to have one of the most competitive Cheltenham festivals I can remember. I’d say at this point Constitution Hill is probably the only bombproof one and even then I’d add the caveat that State Man is probably very good too and Willie Mullins is a genius so who knows. The Irish Arkle was excellent really hoping El Fabiolo takes on Jonbon again.

Fair play to Phil Kirby who has sent Top Ville Ben over for the handicap chase. I hope he runs well!

Why does Jerry Hannon have to tell us “they have gone past their place of departure” in every race?

So that he doesn’t call the finish a lap early… :rose:

“Circuit,” Nathan, “lap” is so F1.

I don’t actually mind “point of departure” – it’s the sort of thing Peter O’Sullevan used to say in his gravelly-understated tones back in the day.

Just watched the first race on Day Two on a betting app – what a fantastic meeting this is on a gloriously-sunny day at a terrific venue!

I even unmuted so I could listen to Jerry Hannon’s latest attempt to have a cardiac arrest during the closing stages – got to love a bloke who loves his job so much he’ll risk death for it eight times in an afternoon!

What an amazing meeting – two days of quality action.

Shows the diluted four-day Cheltenham Festival how it should be done tbh.

I give it five years max before the DRF is three days.

I might make the effort to go to it next year. I was going to go in 2021 as a special birthday present but that was scuppered by lockdown.

A two day ticket is cheaper than one day at Cheltenham. No wonder so many British people are making the journey, although the Dublin hotels have not missed the chance to cash in.

It wasn’t anywhere near as good or as exciting a spectacle or as competitive as even an average Cheltenham festival. Not dissing Leopardstown in any way (or Mullins for that matter) as was clearly a decent couple of days, but Cheltenham sets a very high bar.

Sure, there were some good performances and it is always nice to see decent horses, but the claim that the Dublin event even came remotely close to matching Cheltenham is well wide of the mark.

Irish racing has always had a cosy relationship with the Irish political class. I expect John Magnier and J.P McManus have been on first name terms with most Taoiseachs.

Pat Spillane BTW was a legendary gaelic footballer for Kerry in the 1970s/80s, and then became an outspoken pundit.

You can’t blame the people for attending the DRF, it was high-quality sport.

But, if you’re not a millionaire or someone with a solid business you should ask yourself, if WPM or PN or any of the top 5-6 trainers in the game would even look at you.

They’re all running a business, not a charity, that’s why you look for elite partners why no fear of investing big money. I think that is very good for the game and sets the bar very high. Nothing wrong with that, imo.

Not good that Mullins has the festival to himself, too many runners
Imagine if it were the Henderson Racing Festival, too many runners taken out…
