Every race worth 50 grand, but less interesting than a Tramore or Ffos Las Bumper.
You had a good card at Goodwood, another pretty good one at Galway, now you might want to go to bed and have some sleep. But no, they have to drag you down with the Racing League.
July 29, 2021 at 20:55 #1552572Agree RubyLight. I don’t like to be negative when people are trying to innovate, but racing is not a team sport and is primarily about the horses as far as I’m concerned. I already find the Shergar Cup one of the least interesting big race meetings, and can’t see that the Racing League is going to change my mind.
July 29, 2021 at 21:43 #1552581Have not bothered to even look at it, just strikes me as “dumbing down”
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysJuly 29, 2021 at 21:45 #1552582Never has it been more important to watch a race meeting on mute.
The standard of racing was ok, but the absurd “team sport” aspect was every bit as incongruous as it is at the Shergar Cup.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 30, 2021 at 05:48 #1552618Absolutely dreadful stuff. On the contrary I think The Shergar Cup is different class to this carp and certainly acceptable for one day a year.
The camera coverage was truly awful for watching a horse race but good to see Sky Sports drafting in the big names for the event. Enzo, Bumble, Apiafi et al. Josh Apiafi kept telling us what a great innovation the numbers at the side of the screen were, as you could see exactly where your horse was in the race. Has he considered looking at the horse’s during the race for that?
The vast majority of people in racing who consider this pap, good or great, are likely to have a vested interest and lack objectivity.July 30, 2021 at 09:46 #1552639I didn’t watch but I don’t see how it will work long term, very micky mouse
Cricket looks to be going or at least trying to go franchise with teams in the 100, I’m sure its great for the casual viewer but a kick in the teeth to those county teams with over 145 years of history behind themCharles Darwin to conquer the World
July 30, 2021 at 11:20 #1552658That prize money could be used elsewhere – and I gather this new format won’t include NH racing. If not, why?
July 30, 2021 at 15:54 #1552729Stupid idea when I first heard about it and it completely passed me by to the extent that I completely forgot about it even being on – racing is only a team sport in so far as it involves a team around each individual horse and I think there are far better ways of investing however much money the geniuses behind this idea did elsewhere.
I wonder if the NH boys told them all to go do one when the idea was pitched to them?
July 31, 2021 at 12:15 #1552877Found it interesting enough viewing but it’s just all pretty bland, isn’t it? Who cares about Team eToro or Team Woolworths?
August 5, 2021 at 21:13 #1553509I watched two of the races from Doncaster tonight.
I am not fussed about the team competition either way.
The thing that bothered me was SSR’s insistence on showing overhead pictures during the race. These add absolutely nothing of value and are a silly distraction. Maybe use them in a replay but not during the race itself.
August 5, 2021 at 22:07 #1553515While I am all for more cards full of £50,000 Class 3 Handicaps the exclusive nature of it seems unfair on excluded trainers and boring for punters.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 6, 2021 at 09:51 #1553557What I noticed about Donny last night was the number of exciting finishes and every jockey going for it instead of giving up when they can’t win. The racing was better to watch on the turf at Donny than the boring all weather at Newcastle.
Obviously the prize money is a poeitive but the presentation and pictures from Sky were poor. Looks like Enzo is going to be commentating on all the meetings and I’m not quite sure what Josh Apiafi brings to the table.
Need to get rid of the numbers at the side of the screen and concentrate on the horses. Mentioning the teams during the race commentary doesn’t work and needs to be dropped.August 6, 2021 at 10:13 #1553558At least the numbers on screen are not as intrusive as those used in The Hundred cricket competition.
August 6, 2021 at 10:57 #1553559Not just me then CAS. I cannot abide those daft graphics taking up half of my screen for that ridiculous game, and will not be watching again.

August 6, 2021 at 12:54 #1553566As a 51 year old white, male, decades-long horseracing fan, with the testosterone rapidly draining out of me, I’m probably not in the demographic of what the organizers of the Racing League are hoping to attract from this effort, but I honestly dont understand the antipathy towards it either.
I dont and probably never will engage with horseracing as a team sport or a league, so I can easily leave that element of it aside. But I do like having an extra six competitive heats, that have a lovely shape to their markets to bet on, that I probably wouldn’t have of a normal Thursday evening. And I do acknowledge that perhaps 1.8 million quid wouldn’t have come into the game without a few bells and whistles attached, and the subsequent necessity of those involved with it to pour the sugar on.
Its investment that by all appearances is badly needed in the present prizemoney environment. I see we’ve lost Atomic Force to Hong Kong over the last few days.
Take the point about exclusivity, but that’s been robustly refuted elsewhere.
August 6, 2021 at 15:56 #1553583I am not in the target demographic either Cav and feel as you do. I have no interest whatsoever but, if it does bring in some much-needed new blood than it must be a good thing. I remain sceptical but we need to give it a go. However, if it proves to be ineffective (or a total disaster) I hope the organisers will have the courage to pull or modify it rather than refuse to accept they were wrong and persist indefinitely.
