Thursday in the 2.40 Limerick over 2m4f and it’s
Samcro vs. Faugheen
Any thoughts? If both show up, it could be some race….
December 23, 2019 at 14:15 #1477904Don’t rule out Castlebrook – giant of a horse and jumps for fun.
December 23, 2019 at 19:29 #1477920This is make or break for samcro (and a fair few of my silly Cheltenham trixies)
He has to beat these and beat them well
I’m most interested in seeing how his jumping looks when he isnt racing fakir doudaries
And also what he finds off the bridle after the last
Not a betting race for me but one that I am very much looking forward to
December 23, 2019 at 21:55 #1477927Yeah, no bet for me either FF, but I’d be delighted to see a big run from Samcro.
December 24, 2019 at 18:00 #1478030If Samcro should win this well, which he is capable of, will he be 100 % JLT bound or will they still be considering the RSA?
December 24, 2019 at 19:16 #1478034How battleoverdoyen gets on against minella indo has a big say in that I’d guess
If Samcro and battleoverdoyen win youd think
Samcro JLT
battle RSA
Champagne classic NHCWould be set in stone
If battleoverdoyen loses and loses badly one of the other two may be targeted at the RSA
December 26, 2019 at 09:31 #1478067I would like to see the Machine to teach his younger opponents a lesson. He has to jump better then last time tough, but the engine is still there.
Faugheen 5/2
December 26, 2019 at 11:52 #1478081The last time Faugheen won two on the trot without a bigger break in between was back in December of 2015.
Since then, he’s had his issues and I would be surprised if he could be able to match strides with Samcro’s younger legs.December 26, 2019 at 12:37 #1478090I agree fully with Westender, and I’ve went with Castlebrook at 14/1 ew.
December 26, 2019 at 14:59 #1478109A very convincing display and a much better jumping performance than last time out.
However, Samcro is nothing special over fences. Maybe a bit above average, but he clearly had his limitations exposed today.
December 26, 2019 at 15:18 #1478111Think fences has given Faugheen a new lease on life, his jumping (bar one slight mistake) was very professional and he was galloping relentlessly all the way to the line – on the way round I was thinking that Samcro might struggle to get home if they eyeballed Faugheen from some way out and that is what happened, to me they need to drop him back to 2m and ride him more for a turn of foot.
Not sure what they will do with Faugheen now with regards to Cheltenham, would love to see him go 3m and as I think this could/should be his last year racing (as he will be 12 in a few days) maybe the Irish Gold Cup would be an interesting throw of the dice. Depending on what he did in that race who knows even a Gold Cup entry could be worth considering as I am not sure what the point would be in going the RSA route with a 12yr old.
December 26, 2019 at 15:19 #1478112Makes you wonder what Faugheen could have achieved over fences had he gone over them earlier and if injury had not intervened as well.
Samcro really needs to win something soon to get his career back on track.
December 26, 2019 at 15:27 #1478114Faugheen should go straight to the JLT. He still has a nice change of gears and looked more speed than stamina today.
I don’t care a bit about how good Samcro is or how poorly he has performed today. There were useful yardsticks in the race, e.g. Castlebrook who couldn’t match his pace or his jumping. The Festival has to be his next target, maybe with a tilt at something open at Punchestown afterwards. Even the Irish GC should be considered.December 26, 2019 at 15:28 #1478115I remember thinking when he won at this track (over 3m on heavy ground) as a novice hurdler that he had Gold Cup written all over him (he had already won a point chase over 3m).
Although you can’t crab what he did as a hurdler (imho injury robbed him of becoming a triple champion hurdler) you have to wonder if connections don’t in a reflective moment think what might have been had they decided to keep Vautour hurdling and sent Faugheen chasing instead.
December 26, 2019 at 15:28 #1478116Very nice to see the Machine at his (nearly) best again. He jumped much better then in his previous race. And how long will Samcro keep his ‘big name’? He really hasn’t shown anything special since his novice hurdle races.
