Had to be put to sleep after the race. Looked like a broken leg. RIP 😪
April 10, 2021 at 18:04 #1535704Just 7 years old, very sorry for all his connections. RIP.
April 10, 2021 at 18:05 #1535705Wasn’t he hampered when Vieux Lion Rouge fell just before Bechers?
Sad to hear about his fatal accident, he was a pretty decent jumper of fences!
May he rest in peace
April 10, 2021 at 18:08 #1535715I noticed a horse being pulled up with what looked like a broken hind leg before the second Foinavon, which was presumably him. Very sad, RIP The Long Mile.
April 10, 2021 at 18:12 #1535721Rest in Peace lovely boy.
A bitter sweet Grand National for JP and all who loved and cared for The Long Mile.⚘Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 10, 2021 at 18:27 #1535731RubyLight, it looked to me like it was Kimberlite Candy who was hampered by the fall of Vieux Lion Rouge rather than The Long Mile. They were in very similar colours.
April 10, 2021 at 18:32 #1535735Sorry Marlingford, I was just listening to Machin and Neesom as they went through the race again.
April 10, 2021 at 18:36 #1535739Nothing to be sorry about RubyLight, was just answering your question
Lot seemed to happen at that fence as Yala Enki also unseated which I missed at the time. Still can’t believe Vieux Lion Rouge fell! Sadly I think The Long Mile’s injury was just one of those racing injuries that happen from time to time, but very sad nonetheless.April 10, 2021 at 18:57 #1535746He looked an absolute picture in the paddock … poor lad … did nothing wrong … but somehow that hind leg broke on the flat before 2nd Foinavon … long sad empty trip back to Ireland for his lad/lass … so sorry
April 10, 2021 at 20:36 #1535765The hind leg was broken one or two strides after jumping Bechers. No idea if he hit something when jumping the fence. Very sad as he was so full of running that it took the jockey quite a while to pull him up.
April 10, 2021 at 21:04 #1535768Such a shame. Cast a shadow over a wonderful day’s racing.
April 10, 2021 at 22:51 #1535772A terrible shame.
He was a lovely horse. So sad, especially for the lad/lass that cared for him. - AuthorPosts
