If you have ever played the Board game Totopoly you might know that the names of the 12 horses are taken from past Lincoln winners.

Here is one of them: https://youtu.be/gUqDHHLsWlk

Great clip. Flamenco absolutely bolted up!

I used to enjoy playing Totopoly. One of the other horses – Overcoat – is mentioned in the clip.

It is interesting to see the film footage of lost racecourses. I believe the grandstand at Lincoln still stands.

I noticed that too – Overcoat (red number 6 in the Board game).

I am determined to get Flamenco next time I play the game now – so impressive as you say!

Wow! Knew the names came from real horses but didn’t know they were all Lincoln winners. Wonderful to see the real Flamenco. Thanks Ian.

Still got the board game although it’s decades since I played.
If memory serves, Flamenco was one of three black (most advantaged) horses.
The three black horses, three red, three yellow and three blue horses are not grouped / numbered in the order they won the Lincoln. So does anyone know whether the Totopoly horses were grouped / numbered by how good each Lincoln horse / performance was thought to be? Perhaps numbers based on their handicap marks?

No idea about the relative abilities of the actual Lincoln winners – before even my time! – but, in the board game, get yourself a Black horse with a few advantage cards and you’re home for all money!

Looks like they were arranged ALMOST in order of the weights carried – not quite exactly but in the groups of three by colour.

    1. DW 8.2
    2. F 9.0
    3. D 9.1

    4. MJ 8.0
    5. L 8.0
    6. OC 7.12

    7. PO 7.8
    8. PP 7.7
    9. KE 7.7

    10. KOC 6.2
    11. JF 6.13
    12. E 7.2

Black horses had such an advantage you’d think they’d have made changes in order to make it more competitive.

My grandfather often told me of how he backed Jerome Fandor for a shilling each way.

The Totopoly winners all won the Lincolnshire Handicap. The race only became known as the Lincoln after the course at the Carholme was closed and the race moved to Doncaster.

For the record the horses either side of the selected twelve were:

    1924 Sir Gallahad
    1925 Tapin

    1938 Phakos
    1939 Squadron Castle

Well it’s a quiet evening, and I’ve just received a copy of ‘A History Of Lincoln Racecourse’ by Gareth Dawkins.
