And I don’t like George Orwell. I think he’s a snob (i.e., The Road To Wigan Pier, and the way he ‘studies’ the workingclass – studies them, as if they’re newly discovered wildlife – and seems to think that the workingclass and The North are diametrically opposed to the middleclass and The South)
Whatever you think about Orwell – he was clearly way ahead of his time. Keep the Aspidistra Flying is a beautifully written comedy.

January 14, 2007 at 18:59 #96326Orwell was a snob .. he never really understood the working classes, imo .. but he was more than aware of where the future was going to take them and what our Masters had in store for us all. The war in 1984 couldn’t describe the so called ‘war-on-terror’ better and how if you disagree with the State there is something wrong with you or your ill. Even if the bile that is put out by the State is in a constant state of flux and permanently and consistantly contradicts itself.
Swearing or people being obnoxious with their language doesn’t bother me, they are only words afterall .. the way people behave is of more concern.
Not critising NWRA, just some interesting points, that are worthy of a reply.
