The 3.35 Doncaster sees the best bet of the Day, but only if you could bet on the headlines if The Last Samuri wins. You would think it is odds on that, should last year’s Grand National runner-up score, we will see “The Last Samuri puts rivals to the SWORD” in media outlets reporting the day’s events. Sadly, we won’t be offered odds on that old cliche resurfacing but I feel the Kim Bailey horse is the value at 5/1 roday.

Definitely Red was put up by Timeform on ATR but it is Yala Enki who has been the one for money today. Definitely Red was disappointing last time but he’s more than capable on his day. The doubt for me is that he has never won over this far. Yala Enki is also good on his day but for me he’s best when it’s really testing ground and at 9/4 he’s an easy pass for me.

The Last Samuri is 12 lbs higher than when winning last year but he has the course form and no stamina questions. No doubt he needed his first run of this season but his next run was excellent in the Becher Chase and the form of that race looks A1, with One For Arthur and Vieux Lion Rouge winning good races since.

At 5/1 The Last Samuri looks the most likely to at least run his race and he may be up to winning this. He looks value in the circumstances. A win here would surely see him no bigger than 10/1 for the National itself and in doing so he would boost the form of my other two ante-post picks.

3.35 Doncaster The Last Samuri 5/1

Will the Sword make the headlines? :-)
