How did this race become a workout race for coolmore its worth€725,000 to winner why does it not appeal to many trainers?
June 28, 2014 at 18:42 #484229Because Coolmore have utterly saturated the middle distance breed?… And the timing of the Irish Derby doesn’t corelate with the training programmes…
Most operations with top class horses don’t need the prize money. They want prestige.
June 28, 2014 at 19:22 #484232It’s a shame this race has turned into an absolute joke 5 runner race for that pot of money I just don’t understand it

.I agree with that. To be honest I don’t like seeing the Epsom Derby winner going for the Irish Derby for me it detracts from the Eclipse and King George I’d rather see the Derby winner go to those races and take on the older horses.
June 28, 2014 at 20:07 #484245Will the current sponsors want to keep throwing money at the tripe we saw put forward as a "Classic" today?
I think I would be looking for something better for my money.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 28, 2014 at 20:25 #484248Hardly coolmores fault that trainers don’t target the race. It’s only recently that some trainers haven’t sent their horses there. Most of the middle distance greats have done the derby double but for stallion purposes owners want rather to win the eclipse and the international to enhance breeding prospects. As for cool more saturating the field the horses are there to buy and did not a 5 million pound horse not win in France last week not owned by coolore. The date of the Irish derby hasn’t changed just what owners want to do with their horses has. Great that Australia turned up and hardly the horses fault few turned up. Most we’re scared off unfortunately.
June 28, 2014 at 20:34 #484252Do you know what would have been interesting, and if I owned the horse I would have seriously considered it, Taghrooda running today. That would have thrown the cat among the pigeons and she would have had a great chance. Balanchine won the Oaks and then Irish Derby in 1994, I don’t know who if anyone had attempted it since.
June 29, 2014 at 07:28 #484290Watched a video on Youtube the 1968 Irish Derby with Ribocco beating Sir Ivor and 22 runners thank you very much. What happened?

Salsabil also won the Oaks and then the Irish Derby in 1990.
I agree I would have loved to have seen Taghrooda line up but unfortunately it was never likely to happen.June 29, 2014 at 10:13 #484298My major gripe is knowing that Australia is going to be bungled off to stud at the end of the season

Don’t worry; he’ll soon be replaced by "the best we’ve ever had".
