WaW gets nearly a stone off hte market leaders and appears friendless in the market so maybe he will make a gallant efort and fade to nothing I still underestimated reminds a little of Hunt Ball in his season – jumps well and can be a stone under his realistic weight – it’s Hunt Ball that makes me think WaW can take a hand. All the ones at the top of the market are worthy but I cant split them though I’d go Rocky, Smad Place for the front runners in the market at the prices,
November 28, 2014 at 22:54 #496742Does Midnight Prayer want to win this race if as stated that his main target is at Chepstow?
November 28, 2014 at 23:59 #496751Having reviewed AGAIN, feel Fingal Bay will take a lot of beating. Will stay, will be effective in the ground, and was classy enough to beat Simonsig fair and square over hurdles.
Stable in mustard form, just hope Johnson gets him jumping nicely.
Am regretting ‘bottling it’ by also backing the other one I couldn’t eliminate, the Druids nephew. Should have trusted my gut and gone with the one I like, which is undoubtably Hobbs’ inmate.
Best of luck to all, a race to savour, although it is a shame to not see one of the top boys attempt a ‘Denman’. Mind you Denman probably wouldn’t have tried a Denman if Nicholls didn’t have Kauto Star I’m the Haydock Grade 1.
November 29, 2014 at 00:04 #496753Sky bet are first to go five places.

November 29, 2014 at 00:20 #496754Do we know who Mr. Seagull is putting up yet?
November 29, 2014 at 10:40 #496806Racebets are now 5 places so I’ve taken the 8’s on Fingal Bay.
Bloody tipped up by Pricewise otherwise he’d of been 10’s.Blackbeard to conquer the World
November 29, 2014 at 10:44 #496807Sky bet are first to go five places.
And the last, currently under best price on all bar one runner. Hardly that enticing.
I can understand punters as usual tipping up big-priced runners for a bit of kudos – who remembers when they lose? – but I will be disappointed if bookmakers get a result in today’s renewal.
November 29, 2014 at 10:55 #496810Not the last Stivi – racebets aswell
the extra place enticing for Fingal Bay backers as he’s the same price with 4 places on offer elsewhere.Blackbeard to conquer the World
November 29, 2014 at 11:10 #496817I’ve had two bets here, both highly unoriginal: Djakadam e/w 6/1 and Smad Place e/w 11/2 without Djakadam.
Those two horses jump of the page for me. Smad Place fits the bill as a leading staying novice of last season who relishes a stamina test and he looks very solid, even with 11-10 on his back.
Djakadam has more to prove but if there’s a horse who could run away with it it’s probably him. He travels very well and there has to be a doubt he’ll get the trip but with under 11 stone on his back if he’s every going to get 3m 2f it will surely be today. Connections think he’s a stayer and potentially a Gold Cup horse but he won’t have to be a Gold Cup horse to win this off 142. I actually think he’s a decent jumper and am willing to forgive him his error in the JLT. If connections are right and he actually improves for the trip then he could win as he likes.
November 29, 2014 at 12:42 #496851Djakadam is pretty weak this morning and you get the feeling Smad Place could go off favourite here. The Willie Mullins horse is probably less well known by the general public, being so young and lightly raced.
Generally both around 6/1 now, I feel neither warrant being around half the odds of Rocky Creek.
Many Clouds may have been flattered in beating Holywell last time, with the Jonjo O’Neill trained Gold Cup fancy being well advertised as unlikely to be anywhere near his best at this stage of the season. You feel Smad Place will hold both him and Annacotty on their RSA runs.
I can’t have Fingal Bay for this at the odds. I still shudder when I think about him running out when 1/12 fav for a three runner Novices Chase in a race where had jumped badly left prior to that incident. Kept to hurdles since then, he represents a stable who have started well this season but this is a different challenge in his first foray outside of Novice Chase company and a two year gap on from his last chase. Jumping will be a strong factor today and he’s a horse to take on at 7/1 for me.
The Caution Cuddy for a fun outsider is
Le Reve at 40/1
, a young horse who put up something like a career best last time and he’ll stay this and perhaps surprise a few off 10st 8lb
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 29, 2014 at 13:43 #496854Looks an open renewal.
I think Fingal Bay is the best horse in the field, I accept doubts about jumping, but 8/1 looks big to me. Smad PLace looks solid and is the danger.
Of the outsiders I fancy Hoblon Des Obeaux to run well at 65/1 currently on BF. I agree with VTC that Triolo D’Alene looks big at 46/1.
November 29, 2014 at 15:17 #496863Well done MC backers – another historic Hennessy: great race, despite bookies taking the p1ss with those prices
November 29, 2014 at 15:21 #496864Some big disappointments there.
None more so than Djakadam, who was supposed to be thrown in and a Gold Cup prospect. I said earlier I thought the Paddy Power would be more suitable and he was appalling value.
Rocky Creek was beaten after two fences, already steadily creeping backwards that early and he never went a yard. I turned to my wife after five fences and predicted Rocky would get pulled up.
I failed to see the confidence behind Fingal Bay given his profile and Jim McGrath seemed to think he was a great bet but he was bitterly disappointing.
Many Clouds was one of my few against the field in an earlier post but I felt Smad Place might get the better of him on their RSA form. Maybe Smad had the disadvantage of the lack of a run but he ran well enough.
I can only hope there was something amiss with Rocky Creek today and Djakadam looks like a total rethink is required on his targets.
A totally awful day for my Ten To Follow but good luck to those who had some winners today.
Me? I’m feeling Rocky on my feet and totally Djacked off. Any More Of That and I’ll be ranting along with Hitler in his bunker.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 29, 2014 at 15:28 #496865Never? That’s some statistic rich.
You’ve put me off, truthfully.
No 5 year old ever, No Irish in 40 years.
Already had Many Clouds and might lay it off this week.
Midnight Prayer is unexposed in these races and goes well fresh. The Druids Nephew is another who looks well in.Lovely stuff !
Some performance from the runner up.
Djakadam appalling value and didn’t stay.
November 29, 2014 at 16:42 #496879I await the post mortems with interest. Johnson was looking round from fairly early – I saw him do it at least twice and I couldn’t decide whether it was position-checking or trying to have a look down at the horse’s legs.
He rode a brave race in trying to give FB confidence at his fences – firing him into a few despite it not coming off for him a couple of times.
Stamina shouldn’t have been an issue, yet he stopped quickly, and I hope that old tendon hasn’t blown again. If he’s sound, I wonder if they’ll return to hurdles, given the World Hurdle looks much more open.
With Houblon running such a mighty race, it suggests to me that the ground played a very significant part in this, and it might be wise not to take the form too literally.
Still, it was a great race. I’ve seen many Hennessys, and it’s never lost its magic as a spectacle.
November 29, 2014 at 17:34 #496886Unfortunate postscript to the race with Leighton Aspell receiving a seven day whip ban for the winning ride
November 29, 2014 at 19:44 #496902Favourite race of the year, especially from a betting perspective and two immediate atand-outs are Le Bec and Man Clouds.
50s with Stans for the Gold Cup. Get on them for both.
Game by the bollocks!
