Excuse my ignorance, but how come Henderson got banned for three months or so due to his horse being applied a cream to stop it from getting worse, and Delegator coming back positive for a banned substance yet the talk is of demotion ?

Nicky Henderson was found guilty of knowingly allowing a banned substance to be administered, whereas most failed dope tests stem from the unintentional administering of banned substances, often due to contaminated feed. The Henderson horse was also disqualified, which is par for the course.

Thanks Rory. Would there be a limit of dope they could trace in the horse for it to be classified as contaminated feed, as opposed to a more sinister suspicion ?

That sounds like a can of worms waiting to be opened tbh. The failure of a dope test automatically incurs a disqualification and a financial penalty. A subsequent investigation will decide whether there is a further case to answer. Probably best for you to have a look at the rules in the first instance to satisfy your curiosity.
