I see no sponsor has been found for the old Coral Cup which had been sponsored by Coral since it’s inception. The race will this year will just be called The Cup they could have thought of something else surely maybe the Festival Cup Handicap Hurdle.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 26, 2026 at 10:00 #1756401It has to be a concern that racing cannot find a sponsor for a race broadcast on terrestrial television at the most high profile meeting of the year outside of Grand National day.
Are lots of companies now reluctant to sponsor a race at the festival out of fear of having their name associated with a social media backlash if there is a fatality?
February 26, 2026 at 10:20 #1756402Coral are blaming tax rises but I find it difficult to believe they cannot subsidise the race let’s face it they don’t have to fund the entire £100k+ prize fund from their own pocket.
The more I know the less I understand.
February 26, 2026 at 11:34 #1756405Given the sponsors decision and the location of their HQ, why not:
The Barking Mad Cup Handicap Hurdle.
February 26, 2026 at 12:56 #1756411The CEO of Entain plc was paid £2.5 million in 2021-22 (the last figures available online).
£100k is a relatively small sum.

February 28, 2026 at 00:21 #1756612Entain have brought NZ Tab a few years back , they are pouring money into it , prizemoney etc etc . Rumour has it they will be dialing it back as soon as the initial agreement for prizemoney runs out . Its all the sport betting , i think racing side of things unhealthy .
I can see an outside company unconnected with racing not wanting unwanted headlines . - AuthorPosts
