If thy eye offendeth thee then pluck it out
but contradictory to this
there it sits in the corner; the crouching menace,
immune and unviolated, and protected by a world
used to its creature comfort of instantaneous gratification. It turned up a rare trumps last night with the Hawking lecture
proving that evil can flip like a coin or fall in acid and sparkle.
I say lecture as the man’s hand was printed on the production.
Hawking is very similar to myself as he strives to find the unfindable
the very secret of life (my words) or to him the more mundane
theory of everything. We both sit in a chair, mine by choice, and ponder the why’s
and wherefore’s from our small incomplete window of vision
of this very unsatisfacory existence
which has moments of graciously accepted beauty
as the sun strahls in ( I use the german) and blinds
logical thought like a warm embracing mother.I am in a box in the centre of this great city
and as I searched my coat pocket last night for keys,
for a double leg stretching around this particualr area of crime –
they certainly were not in the pocket –
but as I then removed the items, ten in number,
one by one, there they sat defying the laws of nature. This house of words still exites me
for it povokes the uncertainty in human life.
It can also be very boring which
brings on the undeniable benefit
of forced thought far away from the mundane. The all embracing eye
must possibly close soon.
as gamble is becoming rather uncontrollable
and too much of a challenge again,
and I have an uncomfortable feeling about himher. The unreal world draws me again
to its horrible responsibilities
when my mind would rather idly wander
and stroll on the beach and throw pebbles.
A bit of a boy am I.
And yes, there is a heavy secret
writing for a man – the balance for me is man –
who is quite possibly beyond the grave.
or promotes himself as such.
Some new people may not know that gamble
is very much dead
but still, strangely, sits very much in the real world.Flatcap and flatcapgamble his two sidekicks
and two thirds of the terrible trilogy
taunt me as I remain the main channel of thought,
and they tirelessly muster their incomplete strengths
to repress meA few baffling to some,
and certainly incomplete thoughts.Considering news items
the jillything has
very much provoked my interest. She’ll be back sometime,
possibly in the past,
drawn in like a star
by the black uncertainty
of this hole,
this liltte house of honours.March 4, 2008 at 18:09 #148394Gamble, have you ever thought of having your lines published? Or have I missed something and you’re a published writer already?
xMarch 4, 2008 at 18:35 #148396Lekha, they are published, you’ll find all gambles work in any beano comic from yesteryear!
seriously I don’t know how anyone can understand his rants.
March 4, 2008 at 20:50 #148420They are a thing of rare beauty.
Hold them – and him – close, lest he run off again.

Me neither! They’re very clever I’m sure but he’s in a little mad world of his own I fancy
March 5, 2008 at 06:35 #148492Well articulated Gamble.
March 5, 2008 at 08:14 #148504is it just me, or has it got darker ?
March 5, 2008 at 09:41 #148527you’ll find all gambles work in any beano comic from yesteryear!
I find gamble’s rumbustiosness
almost impossible at times,
but it is this almost untapped
and ever searching spirit,
hisher highly charged mercurial moods
– the sort that would shake
an old sailors boots
beneath the Cape –
that melds me so close to himher that
I feel a real tangibility that borders on love
– but there is a maggot !
Inside that love, there is a distinct loathing,
that borders on detestation.Although the eye
has met a solitary voice on here
he keeps himself well lashed up
and sorted. This is the way to operate
in a house if you want true mindfulness
and freedom.
Gamble has met one official
but the the meeting which took
place at the old Flutter offices
and the pub over the road
was a beautifully crafted
masquerade – a smokescreen
as three gambles, three personas, confused the issue.
Mr Davies an old soldier on here knows the half of it.Well Jimilarkey you do me the honour of a visit
and certainly being a small beano fan
I cannot complain
– but how the goathell do I make the pictures. ?Lekha no published word
apart from the seven houses of disrepute
and I assure you,
once I am in there
they smell and are disreputableThe writting above
is pitted with difficulty
it could be prodded and picked at
even pickled
and put into shape
but these boards
lean to energy and mood
and respected order and proper shape
are of little
particualrly to yo gamble
who shouts at the top
and from hisher hip.I don’t know really
a lot of the writing
surprises me
and I reread with some wonder. The darkness is there
there was a meeting – unfortunate
and all for the purposes of art
.It was hinted at in the racing section,
and yes there is a taint of real evil
which all should beware of.
I do not come to this lightly
there has been a thorough
investigation and the balance
suggests it.Thank you

I am back to make up for my ungraciousness.
One of the hard parts of imparting written thoughts
is the later dissolusionment with what is written
and the regret.I would like to thank the kinder comments
behind me
Grays who parries himself so sharply
and the real barney, a newish acquaintance.
As for Hill we of course go back
a long way, and I have of course
heard the mad little world before.
However this mad little world
included a holiday we shared
with expensive towels
and boisterous kids
and well off the marks
– but strangley
or strangely, all was denied
by the third crow of the cock,
and well outdside the pool area
as the mad little world
sprung up on the horizon,
worried itself, and blocked the sunThis board still fascinates
as it stutters a lot
and although most of the oddballs
have been carefully replaced
by the star shaped,
there is still irregualrity
and some defiance
and evidence of unfettered thought.
Who would have thought
that a howdee thread
with a lot of chaff would
have survived the long dry period ?Sberry as for the darkness
I am held back to reveal all
but may attempt a full disclosure
at a later time.Who monitors
the monitor’s monitor
when the devil sleepsMarch 5, 2008 at 14:20 #148601we’re all being monitored in one way or another, it’s not a bad thing
March 5, 2008 at 14:35 #148605The ever watchful eye
is a necessity
in an overpopulated world
sberry.(who himself parries so sharply
you see what I mean
about regret grayson )The eyes in here
are like soft grasses.
A whisper in
the meadow
is to feel their lids.I have always been
too kindly moderated.
I tiptoe a lot
its the new way
to survive,
Despite this
there is a place for untramelled thought
give thought thanks to the editMarch 5, 2008 at 20:19 #148661His posts are spontaneous and he is mining a rich seam. I wouldn’t say these are rants nor are they poems, but they are a welcome change of pace and style from the frenetic unpleasantness of pre-Cheltenham fever.
March 5, 2008 at 20:33 #148665Are you feeling OK Andrew?
I’m not a National Hunt fan but I can get my head around and understand the excitement and over excitement about Cheltenham with members posts on here but gambles are like throwing pots of alphabet spaghetti over a whiteboard.
Still, at least he’s not harming anyone and probably won’t start smashing the place up with a sledgehammer!
March 5, 2008 at 20:41 #148667I had an unpleasant visit to the dentist today and she, despite sounding just like Sandi Toksvig, has unsettled me, so I am in a forgiving mood and though I think Gamble might secretly have a chuckle at some of the people who laud his literary abilities, I enjoy the fact that he writes with freedom and attempts to communicate in something other than straight lines. It makes a change from reading insults thinly disguised as opinions.
March 5, 2008 at 20:47 #148669No probs Andrew,
If I had the choice of a trip to the dentist or reading and trying to understand gambles rants then it would have to be more root canal treatment please!
March 5, 2008 at 20:50 #148673Root and canal are two perfectly pleasant words that should never be brought together.
March 6, 2008 at 00:23 #148695but gambles are like throwing pots of alphabet spaghetti over a whiteboard.
Jimalarkey I cannot be too hard on you
as you are one of the oldest members
on here and still wearing your old truffle tie.
I hanker for the past and in many senses
you longshanks best represent it
and dont we all love
a musty old relicI would imagine Cormack has
quite a job to edge by you in a passage
with any hidden parcel of innovative restructure.
Still I suppose the House of Jim
very much like the monarchy
is our last defence
against the trots.I appreciate your spag hetti
reference above, and one I have often used
in the context of these boards
possessing both colour and texture.
Possibly I could learn from
the playful child within you –
if only you’d loosen your tie
and let it out. -
