Live on the beeb.
What a story, what a money spinner!
Apparently, the drillers struck gold and all sorts on the way down, and they could well get a share of that too! On a slightly more tragic note, Bobby Charlton has invited them to Old Toilet for a knees up….
Not completely out of the woods, though, and a few things could still go wrong, as it usually does in South America…
The Pope has also been praying for the safe rescue of the miners…. Acknowledgement’s a start, I suppose
October 13, 2010 at 19:01 #322240I forgot it was on and missed it all. So wanted to see some good news on the telly. They looked very well, considering what they’d been through For some reason makes me want to watch The Descent again.
October 13, 2010 at 22:10 #322277I think the thought of becoming rich beyond their wildest dreams kept them going from, ummm, at least ten minutes after they learned rescuers were going to drill them out!
As emotional as the scenes of them being brought back into the world are, the cynic in me can only picture chilean president Sebastian Pinera’s cheesy grin and a herd of lawyers and agents almost breaking their necks in the rush.
The miners, of course, deserve everything they’re about to recieve, but the vulgar undertone is hard to get away from.
October 14, 2010 at 08:51 #322307I was expecting to see Max Clifford in hard hat and overalls assisting the stretcher bearers

Like you, on the one hand I find all this chat about the miners receiving untold wealth and celebrity status a rather tacky sign of our vulgar times; but on the other a feeling they deserve all the rewards they can get their calloused hands on, though I fear the stress they suffered down there may be rendered relatively insignificant by that to come up here
Whatever, it was riveting television and the rescue a magnificent feat of engineering
The 69 days is of course ideal material for a suitably hammed-up Hollywood blockbuster
Welcome back guys
the price of copper
the price of oil
the price of coalOctober 16, 2010 at 06:27 #322676I have been amazed by this .. it just shows you what people can do when they put their minds to it
October 17, 2010 at 11:32 #322913Unfortunately a bit like the way that technology makes great strides forward when we have world wars and such. If only mankind could harness that ability the rest of the time for the general good of humanity and our planet just think what the world would be like.
October 17, 2010 at 23:08 #323039Still full of freaks, Moe, I’m afraid.
