I guess we all have them … the horses, jockeys and trainers who’re the thorns in your side when you back them. The ones who effectively stuff your chances of making a profit or drain your wallet/purse.

    Here are mine…

Ryan Moore – Nearly every time I back him, he fails. When I don’t pick him, he wins. Annoying bogey!

Mark Johnston – Sometimes he’ll have 2, 3 or even 4 horses in a race (for example the 1st races at Glorious Goodwood). His horses often come in at good prices but I’m damned if I can nail one. The one that wins is always the one I don’t pick. Major bogey!

Caspian Prince – Everytime I back him he loses. Everytime I back against him, he pops up at a big price. Pure Bogey!

Who or what are your big bogeys in racing?

Great trainer for owners – Terrible trainer for punters

Librisa Breeze for me. Every time i backed him he lost, and every time i never he won. It’s been going on for nearly 2 years now. Saying that Limato was quite bad one before him.

Connections never lose because they know when to back and when to lay. You will not survive a week as a backer if you lack that crucial knowledge.
