In the past Reg Akehurst, Spittin’ Mick Easterby, even today he’s one to be weary of, don’t laugh but Nigel Tinkler has in the past been very good, Daviid Wintle, the late Alec Stewart was very very good say between 1986-1990 Braashee, Daarkom, Waajib all bring back memories, sweet memories.
Sweet memories for me too, and don’t forget Just David in the Chester Cup. Returned at 10-1 if memory serves.

Nigel Tinkler used to be a superb trainer of hurdlers in the late eighties, no idea what’s happened to him since then.

Tony Martin has had a bit of bad luck lately (injuries over jumps, poor draws and unsuitable going on the flat) so to say he’s lost his touch is a bit harsh.

Maybe, maybe… but whilst accepting he’s won the Northumberland Plate (among other races) on the level during the same period, isn’t a record of 0-55 with his National Hunt runners in Great Britain since the start of the 2008-9 jumps season a rather unusual reversal for a man who knows how to land a touch in such contests over here?
It was noticeable at the Perth Gold Cup meeting last month that expectation of a Martin "good thing" going in as in former times was enough to see at least two of his raiders being sent off at or close to favouritism, but those that were still on the premises a couple of obstacles from home folded quite markedly.
On that day at least (and others who study the stable closer than I will know for how long this may have been the case), something just appeared to be ailing his runners enough to curb their late efforts.

, an upturn in fortunes back home (under either code) in April-May seems to have represented temporary respite in an otherwise miserable 2009. Let’s see if Osirixamix’s win on Wednesday can be the catalyst for better to come, though.

July 4, 2009 at 02:03 #237725A few years ago, used to get tips for some of the horses in PJ Makin’s stable.
Basically a lad in our bookies knew a lad from another bookies whose son worked over in England for Makin.
All went in at big prices too, was a few years back.
The whole shop used to be on, was great.
