Istabraq flat bred 2 wins from 11 on the flat, all getting votes
Surely Rock Of Gibraltar,Galileo and So You Think have their measure!Whats Istabraq’s flat record got to do with it?n It’s the best horse O’Brien has trained, not the best horse he’s trained on the flat.
A simple look at his Cheltenham record shows why he is the best Aidan has trained.
Get real he was a flat bred horse and an ordinary one who wouldn’t have made a decent gallop partner for AOB’s best,he was a great jumper, but not in the same postcode in ability as some of the horses listed!
We are talking about his best horse not his best jumper!
We are talking about the best horse he trained, that can be a National Hunt or a Flat horse, there wasn’t a restriction set.
You saying Istabraq wouldn’t have been a decent gallop partner for most of the above named simply isn’t fair, would any of them got near him in a 2 mile hurdle race?
People’s opinion on the best is different, Its hard to compare say a 2 mile hurdler and a 1 mile flat horse for me however Istabraq’s performances over hurdles surpassed that achieved by those on the flat, therefore i’d say he’s the best. Just my personal opinion.
July 2, 2013 at 01:36 #444613Yes Danny, I agree it is open to conjecture and opinion and fair enough.Though the way I am looking at it is if a horse kicked off their career say against Frankel and was getting beaten half a furlong then went over the fences and we were asked which one of the 2 is the best.

for me. Apart from Frankel and Canford Cliffs, I can’t remember a miler in my lifetime who could quicken so rapidly. He had excellent consistency in what was a competitive year for milers, too.
It was galling to see him lose the Breeders Cup Mile under such an ill-judged ride, with Landseer’s fatal accident also briefly throwing him off balance when trying to make ground. To get so close to Domedriver (on a very sharp track) after all of that was miraculous.
It is a shame that Rock Of Gibraltar hasn’t reached brilliant heights as a stallion. Maybe he would shine brighter in more memories if he had Galileo’s breeding influence. The Rock does produce talent and G1 winners at a variety of distances, but isn’t an elite stallion by any means.
July 3, 2013 at 21:06 #444755Rock of Gibraltar is a one of a kind. He was the best 1 miler at the time and with a strong form to back.
I don’t really need to say as the replays speak for themselves.
