Alot of us racing fans have been waiting for ex Aiden Obrien trained horse to make its appearance over the jumps. Well tomorrow in the 12.20 Newbury, he is having his first race for Mr Nicholls. Im looking forward to seeing him and this will show how good the Alan King trained Walkon is
December 16, 2008 at 23:10 #197454Unproved and 4/5 in the betting forecasts…..
Not really my cuppa – I’ll be on Mr Kings’ Walkon tomorrow at 6-1
December 16, 2008 at 23:18 #1974564/5? I will probabley been on Mr Kings aswell. 6/1 looks a cracking price
December 17, 2008 at 01:06 #197493Hebridean and Zaynar look better value for cheltenham than tomorrow, as both can afford to be beaten on debut and still very much in the picture, as the race looks very competetive. Zaynar is also an interesting one as he would appear to be Hendersons number one choice for Chelters, not only that but henderson has such a record in tomorrows race
A case could be made for Walkon, who will have the ground right up his street, Saingleland, Kahsabelle and Moores horse PSI. As tomorrow race stands I may have a little e/w go on Moores if the bookies can go 25s or 33s about him.
Potentially the best Juvenile Novice race of the year so far.
December 17, 2008 at 01:31 #197505Been waiting for this since I heard he was going to PFN, but I too will be backing Walkon, looks like I will have to take the price aswell ha.
December 17, 2008 at 05:08 #197569Only two Aidan O’Brien flat horses-turn-jumpers come to mind: Hebridean and Genghis Khan. Any others?
I would be happy to lay.
December 17, 2008 at 05:26 #197571Hills of Aran and Mountain also come to mind. IMO Hebridean always looked like a 2 mile hurdler in the making, the difference with Hebridean was never a coolmore horse as most of AOBs are and was gelded a while ago so it actually made sense to sell him for a jumping campaign, where most of the rest of his that go jumping are potential stallions that didnt work out.
Paul Nicholls says on teletext that he has had hebridean over a few obstacles and tomorrow is to work out just how good he is, which doesnt sound too confident, on reading that I’d probably make Zaynar favorite tomorrow with hendersons record and the Cheltenham support he has had, a lot of money will be look to be up the spout if he doesnt go well tomorrow.
December 17, 2008 at 05:30 #197574Jonjo did pretty well with Two Miles West and Mikado.
December 17, 2008 at 05:40 #197575The Ethiopian and Acropolis are two other ex-Ballydoyle horses that spring to mind. Neither really achieved anything of note over the sticks.

Very well with the former, as it happens, who’s certainly always looked to these eyes to be a bit small for the jumps game yet has still managed to pick up a chase or two.

December 17, 2008 at 17:34 #197640Weakened very badly there after travelling quite well. Will have to show big improvement if he’s going to be a player for the Triumph. Betting told us he’d need the run though.
Winner did it well. Looks like a nice horse. 5/1and 6/1 for Cheltenham doesn’t really appeal to me.
December 17, 2008 at 17:39 #197642Backed Zaynar at 20’s already so pleased with that nice debut from him. Cracking run and only thing you could fault was his jumping.
Hebridean folded tamely at the business end of things (non-stayer?)
December 17, 2008 at 18:29 #197650I noticed it, it was quite a bad jump, hit the fence really hard and lost a bit of momentum at that hurdle.
Hebredian went out like a light though, may come on for the run, but had nothing more to give and that was with 2 furlongs left of the race.
The winner did it well and a good run from Walkon, in second.
December 17, 2008 at 19:48 #197664I got on both Hebridean and Zaynar before the race and where I am very happy with Zaynar’s performance, I am also not too disheatened with the performance of hebridean.
Hebridean goes on soft but that doesnt mean that a 2mile hurdle on soft cant be made to take him out of his comfort zone stamina wise. The maiden hurdle later on the card looked to be dominated by horses who also had plenty of stamina in their pedigree, and that race was 5 seconds slower than Zaynars win, so where I am made up with Zaynar, hebridean will have his day, and looks to have put in a decent honest performance in a race where he has had little chance.
Realistically I think that on better ground both Zaynar and Walkon would probably come back to the field a bit and hebrideans speed would also count for more.
Corals stand out 33s on Hebridean will probably shorten next time he runs I would imagine
December 17, 2008 at 21:21 #197681I think I would rather back Zaynar for the Triumph at 6`s than I would Hebridean at 20`s. Zaynar won comfortably with a bit in hand but Hebridean was poor. I am sure the master ( PWN )will get a tune out of him eventually but he`s not ready yet.
