He did nothing wrong yesterday.
October 2, 2006 at 15:13 #78385Theoretically but he still lacks strength in a finish.

Didn’t get beat far and would have gone much closer with someone like Frankie on top imo.
Being off the pace ina slowish race wouldnt be that clever. The race was a totally different affair to the Japanese races.

October 2, 2006 at 17:41 #78387If you want to look at questionable rides, the Arc is certainly the race, but not Yutaka Take.
Lemaire and Dettori, both gave their mounts poor rides, holding them both up at the back off a slow pace. What Dettori was thinking (being aboard a St. Leger winner) is beyond me, whilst Lemaire’s ride aboard Pride clearly cost her the race.
And yes, I am talking through my pocket.
Didn’t do Rail Link & Pride that much harm, in fact the time wasn’t that slow, they went a sensible pace.
October 2, 2006 at 19:06 #73667Great stuff, FSL.
October 2, 2006 at 19:44 #73668Great call and well done!
October 2, 2006 at 20:48 #78597Yes, Timeform do check times against video.
You also have to do this for all Irish races.
USA a lot of sectionals are pure fiction.
When Raceform and Sporting Life etc were independent you could spot printing typos in race times by comparing one against the other. Now you really need to retime all the important races by computer.
October 2, 2006 at 21:04 #78598Thanks for the info Robert
makes me wonder how much info like this has actually got put in the formbook without being checked
October 2, 2006 at 21:45 #78599In one of Nick Mordin’s books he mentions an Irish meeting where the last 3 races were run over the same distance and all were given the exact same time! He reckoned that the timer had decided that he was finishing at 5:30 (last 2 races went off after this time) and that nobody would ever notice.
October 2, 2006 at 22:46 #78389I backed Pride, so believe me when i say that Pride really just didn’t hack it on the ground. Lemaire didn’t do anything wrong.
As for Take – I have never seen a weaker finish. Shocking.
As for messr Dettori, I was there just as he brought the horse back to Noseda towards the parade ring. He said he had him in a good position, but felt flat throughout the race and had nothing to give.
October 2, 2006 at 22:58 #78390don’t know how you can say that a filly who ran the race of her life didn’t hack it on the prevailing ground. The slow pace favoured the speed horses, with first and second both coming from well back, so I don’t think you can blame the ride. Take didn’t have much choice but to lie handy on a horse who has won over two miles- it was no surprise he hadn’t the pace for the final fulong sprint, though I agree he rides a finish like J.P. Magnier.
October 2, 2006 at 23:10 #78391Hurricane Run doesn’t exactly love quick ground, but still managed to win the Diamond Stakes on it……
Horses can still run well without loving the ground, which is what I think happened with Pride.
October 2, 2006 at 23:35 #73669Oh my God! What a superb weekend, just got back from gaye Paris. All paid for courtesy of Fabre, Pasquier and FSL.
Pleased to say I got a fair wedge on at 23.6/1 on the pmu, but FSL it was here that I first heard of Rail Link.
Thnak you.
Makes me wonder that maybe the formbook could be a total fabrication
And may the RP’s less than punctilious checking of going and times be in part responsible for Topspeed figures being wildly at odds with Timeform’s and – it would appear – the late EC’s.
Does anyone know (Prufrock?) why Timeform do not return timefigures for French and Irish Pattern races. Can’t see why not as they must have a wealth of time data by now.

Spot on Willo, a ridiculous situation in this technological era
October 3, 2006 at 18:32 #78602I don’t work there any longer, drone, so it’s not really my place to comment. There are an awful lot of issues regarding race length, dolling out and wind even before you get to the race times themselves. I reckon it’s worth the effort for a few of the best courses in Ireland and France, but I could understand if someone else did not.
