They both know a thing or two about turbo smug and talentless then. Hope he feels better after writing that drivel. Don’t know why these people feel the need to get so wound up about something that doesn’t affect them in any way. Yes, plenty of political stuff goes on but I’d bet 95% of those there couldn’t care less about it. All I see in the crowds is people enjoying themselves and good on them.

That’s an entertaining rant from the permanently puce Brendan O’Neill

Glastonbury always was a ‘middle class’ event; I don’t recall much Northern Soul, Reggae and other such ‘working class’ music featuring there 40 and 50 years ago.

The difference between now and then is that back then it was at least an ‘alternative’ refuge for youth, largely ignored by the likes of the BBC and The Guardian. Now it’s a mainstream event loved by them and attended by that youth in their middle age together with their offspring and quite probably their grand-offspring

I feel sorry for todays youth, having little music to themselves. The NME of yesteryear snubbed and ridiculed by parents and adults generally has been replaced by The Guardian’s culture pages and the BBC over-earnestly endorsing the musical zeitgeist

I would have hated to have had the music of my youth approved of and taken seriously by my parents and the boring old farts ‘mainstream media’

    ‘Out Demons Out’

Weather Warning: the expected heatwave is likely to see the appearance of lots of paunchy middle-age men wearing shorts and ‘slogan wear’ tee-shirts, possibly with flowers in what remains of their hair

    Enjoy :-)

“That’s an entertaining rant from the permanently puce Brendan O’Neill”.

He did seem in quite a bad mood when he wrote that one. He is a good writer in the main but unfortunately he is starting to get dangerously close to self parody sometimes.

At least at Glastonbury any supporters of open borders are safe in the knowledge that no one will be able to spoil their party.

Neil Young’s set is going to be shown live on the BBC tonight. He had refused to allow it to be broadcast but has changed his mind.

In other news, Lana Del Rey is performing at Anfield this evening. After her infamous Glastonbury show two years ago, presumably she has arranged to have her hair done earlier tonight?

    Biggest certainty of the week!

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of reception he receives when he walks onto the stage.

It’ll be interesting won’t it. Mind you, I’ve never forgiven Roger Daltrey for supporting Brexit. And yet he does so much for teenage cancer charities. Then you get someone like Neil Young whose music I love; whose politics I, in general, support, who is a complete ****. I watched the 1975 last night because I couldn’t understand why, if they are an indie rock band, I’d never heard of them. Boring or what? Couldn’t understand how people were singing along to what seemed to me to be tuneless songs.Unlike The Script, who I didn’t know but are great. For those who liked Heilung last year my favourite Scandi pagan band GOAT are playing tomorrow night. English Teacher, my current favourite band, were good. I think Lily Fontaine is a superstar and their drummer is brilliant ( in fact, thry all are).I was surprised that Wet Leg came out super sexy looking; after seeing their wonderful video for Chaise Longue I thought they’d be dressed like Amish ladies.

Thought I didn’t know GOAT Moehat but just looked them up and I see they did the music for The Gallows Pole. Will definitely watch if they’re shown.

Don’t be mislead by celebs’ charity work. Look at Saville. Not that there’s any suggestion that Daltrey was ever involved in anything sleazy. He’s far too dull. Heard him described many times as the most boring man in Sussex (no mean feat considering some of the competition). I bet Rod doesn’t show tomorrow.

    Pulp were fabulous today.

I think most people see Rod Stewart as a likeable enough character. And he has reached that elder statesmen stage where he has earned the right to say what he wants. His fans won’t care about his opinions anyway.

I believe it would be different for a younger singer at the start of their career expressing admiration for Farage or anyone seen as being on the political right. I don’t think they would be received well at Glastonbury, whereas Stewart has the weight of a highly successful career behind him to shield him from any criticism. Even if a few people boo him, he can always console himself with the millions he has in the bank.

Gary Numan rocked the Park Stage earlier today. In the past he expressed admiration for Mrs Thatcher and even fairly recently is on record as saying “I am not a socialist, I know that. I don’t believe in sharing my money.”

Perhaps it is not surprising he has not performed at the festival before and was only put on the Park Stage.

Gary Numan looked pretty good from the couple of tracks I saw. Agree that Pulp were brilliant, shame they only had an hour but it was enough time to fit in all the songs you’d expect.

I enjoyed Franz Ferdinand yesterday, was quite funny when they brought out a guy from Glasgow called Capaldi and it was Peter rather than Lewis.

Not bothered about Neil Young, don’t really know much about Charli XCX but apparently she puts on a good show so I’ll have a look after the football.

Charli did an amazing set a few years ago. Annoyingly I went out and bought what I thought was the cd but it didn’t contain the songs she sang at Glastonbury. She was the highlight of that years Glastonbury for me. Gary Numan is quite the environmentalist these days so I can forgive him anything.I love his recent music.I think his asbergers is probably the reason why he doesn’t seem to do a lot of live performances. There’s a documentary on Sky Arts that’s often repeated; he seems like a nice guy with a lovely family. Beth Gibbon(s) tonight was sublime. More music I’m going to have to buy. I sadly realised that Hey Hey My My is the perfect rhythm for doing my pre knee replacement exercises to :-(

Charli XCX just lip syncs all the time. Plus, she’s a total coke addict.

    Waste of space.

Problem for Rod is that he’s not performing in front of his fans. Doubt there are many among that Glastonbury audience, though a lot will probably like a few of his songs. Agree that Numan was good. I remember him losing a lot of fans with his support of Thatcher back in the day but saying you’re not a socialist isn’t like telling people to support Farage and, whatever his views, Numan isn’t stupid enough to publish them 2 days before going on stage.

It might not just be booing. I saw Morrissey flee the stage in tears after being pelted with mud back in 1985 (?). Nothing to do with his politics. He came on in a white suit and we were all knee-deep in mud so he only had himself to blame. The Pogues were on next and they just chucked it back. Those were the days. I imagine the audiences are too far from the main stages to be able to lob things these days, which is probably safer but a lot less fun.

Gave up on Charli, not for me. Never heard of Doechii but she’s on iPlayer now. She’s really good.

I gave up after 20 seconds. I’m recording Neil Young and John Fogarty earlier in the night. He has written some massive songs. It wasn’t that long ago I found out he wrote Rocking All Over The World.
