Quijano, Musical Way and Balius take on the local in the APQEII Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday.
I was lucky enough to speak to Peter Schiergen for quite some time at Duesseldorf on Saturday – we even watched the Scottish Grand National together on the big screen!!! I’ve seen him at the races before, but never really spoken to him, and I’ve got to say, he’s one of the nicest people in racing I’ve ever met, and naturally, we were talking about Quijano. I said to him that how unlucky I though Quijano was at Dubai, to which he wryly smiled and replied ‘Only Dubai? What about Woodbine? And Hong Kong?’ We both agreed that it was about time his luck changed. I asked him if Quijano would run in Britain this year, but it looks like it’s pretty much the same as last year with Hong Kong and Singapore high on the agenda, with the Grosser Preis possibly a target as well.

April 21, 2008 at 23:02 #159169The gist I picked up from AOBs stable tour last week was that peeping fawn will be kept fit to be a "plan b" to replace the colts in the second half of the season and we may not see a great deal of her in the first half.
Am looking forward to seeing Getaway this season, getting got a feeling hes going to be a good one.

April 22, 2008 at 11:55 #159239I expect Soapy Danger to get close to the top of the middle distance divsion this year. Now fully over his injuries he’s a blood and guts street fighter in the true Johnston mode.
April 27, 2008 at 15:51 #160221Is Duke of Marmalade still in training with AOB?
I fully expected him to win a big one last year but they couldn’t seem to find his true distance.
If he has progressed this year he may be one to watch.
That’s my boy!

Entered in the Sagaro at Ascot this week and I would be thinking along the same lines as his trainer in that the staying division would be his best chance of picking up further black type.
April 27, 2008 at 19:31 #160241Bit of a mixed bag as far as the German horses went today. Quijano was 5th in Hong Kong, although he was a bit under distance really – I actually said to Peter Schiergen last week that I thought he could even be a Melbourne Cup horse, but Peter seemed to think that, as a handicap, Quijano would have too much weight to carry. However, he’s finished strongly in all his races over 1 1/2 miles recently, so I wouldn’t be too disppointed with the Hong Kong run. Adlerflug on the other hand was a big disappointment in the Gerling Preis (well beaten), but Saddex has run a blinder to finish second in the Ganay today

Maybe, though he’s also in the Coronation Cup so they could well mix it up a bit with him. On soft ground he may well be able to run his race over shorter trips.
