Thanks Silvoir and I, too, apologise as my comments were a tad harsh. It’s good to hear that you’ve got your priorities right and try to spend quality time with your family. We do miss the regular input you once had on here but appreciate your popping in from time to time. Good wishes.
KAugust 4, 2010 at 16:39 #310943You’ll see many tracks with a mown grass strip finishing line or a thin white finishing line, Silvoir. I rarely if ever see horses jumping them.
If you check the 7.10 at Ffos Las last evening, you’ll see that Winter Star was a non runner but the horse doesn’t appear on the non runners list at the BHA site. Dont know what time he was pulled out at but I’d be fairly sure it was after the 5pm(ish) threshold. With the reason for not running listed, I’d imagine there’s human input in the updates at some stage of the publishing process.
August 4, 2010 at 16:45 #310944Pru – thanks. Enquiries are normally announced on course though if they don’t affect the result there won’t be a ‘bing bong’. I’ll check when I speak to them later.
Cav – thanks. Will update when we know the reason.
August 4, 2010 at 17:51 #310973My point was really that at one end of the spectrum we get to look inside the stewards’ room as the enquiry takes place, with all the details of charges etc.
At the other, like today, we believe that there is an enquiry taking place but we never get details of what precisely is being enquired into or what the reasons for the delay (until you gave them) were, and so on.
I would have thought it possible to keep the public more informed in the second instance without going so far as having it televised.
"The stewards have interviewed the jockey and trainer into the apparent absence of effort by the former. The results of the enquiry are likely to be delayed until after the final race while full veterinary checks are made on the horse’s welfare and while the trainer discharges his duties as trainer of Vigano, a runner in that race."
Sort of thing.
It would also mean that I can have ATR on "mute" until after the last race.
August 4, 2010 at 18:43 #310979Fair point Pru – though I’m sure any such wording would be along perhaps more cautious/generic lines such as: "The stewards are enquiring into the running and riding of A Horse. The results of the enquiry will be made known as soon as the enquiry is concluded and the neccesary veterinary checks have been made on the horse."
Whilst we’d still be reliant on the broadcasters disemminating it, it would no doubt help. I’ll pass it on.
August 4, 2010 at 19:00 #310984I certainly would not expect anyone in authority to comment on the following, but I can only imagine how some of them must feel when an incident of blatant and reckless disregard for the rules sets the sport back 20 years. Despite what some might wish to imply, they cannot want it any more than we do.

Show it all and be more vigilant, like the French.
My money was on Stacelita, so you could say i’m biased, but Midday, Jacquelines Quest, Fleeting Spirit. I don’t watch as much racing as you guys (i’m sure), but when i do Tom Queally is battering the crap out of horses and managing to get them run all over the place, too much of a coincidence for me.

Definitely biased, Phil.
Can you recall any more incidents involving Tom Queally, other than those three high-profile group races?
