Mike Cattermole with two more John Holmes-sized cock-ups at Windsor tonight. He was screaming home 66/1 shot Fandango, mistaking it for eventual winner Defrocked in the 18:00.
That followed on from another major blunder in the previous race!
How does he keep getting the big gigs?

He must have signed a 33 year contract or something

April 26, 2016 at 07:41 #1243644He’s qualifying for one of those Specsaver ads.
Not Simon’s finest moment when he put Catt forward for commentating all those years ago.
April 26, 2016 at 08:14 #1243645Dislike him a lot. If you listen to him he speaks about nothing without naming the horses most of the time when he should just tell you where the horses are.
April 26, 2016 at 20:04 #1243688Been doing it for years, time he was taken off the roster
October 2, 2016 at 06:06 #1265388Woeful at Ascot over the weekend, don’t know how he continues to get these big meetings. The racecourse executive can’t be listening to the quality of his commentaries.
Got away with it by the hairs of his chinny chin chin in one race on Saturday only to repeat the error a couple of races later and not get way with it.
And that’s not even mentioning him never taking into account what side of the track at Ascot the pictures are coming from, or is he only commentating for people in the grandstand using bins?
October 2, 2016 at 10:48 #1265408When he was on the gravy train with channel four he had a column with the racing post weekender which must have qualified for the most uninspired ever.
All he did was tip up short priced favs and spout cliches. Eventually he was given the boot I believe as even the racingpost must have realized he made mick fitz seem insightful.
October 2, 2016 at 11:27 #1265412Quite like Catt’s commentary style myself, imo it’s good bar the occasional blunder. No Hoiles or Holt, better than many with a higher reputation.
Value Is EverythingOctober 2, 2016 at 20:29 #1265473Stil he’s better than the awful Martin Harris who can send you to sleep during his commentaries

I still remember the two-horse race that Martin Harris commentated on over the jumps at Leicester a few years ago.
It was truly appalling. He made very little effort at all to add anything interesting apart from just saying the two horses’ names slowly over and over again.

No mentions of the jockeys, the trainers or any bits of form.
As David Fitzgerald has proved, even a two-horse race can have an interesting commentary if the man calling it is prepared to do a bit of homework and spice up what he tells the public over the microphone.
I’ve always liked Mike Cattermole. Good voice and style and an absolute gentleman. Two of my friends were impressed with him at Chelmsford when he said Hello to them out of friendliness as they went in when he didn’t even know them.

Only nutcases say hello to complete strangers.
October 4, 2016 at 22:03 #1265662Being nice and friendly is not part of the job description for a course commentator, being accurate with your calls is and Cattermole has long lost it.
The commentator roster could do with a shake up completely as some of the so called top callers seem to be resting on their laurels these daysOctober 5, 2016 at 00:08 #1265670The two Irish commentators are much worse than anyone in Britain, boring. So on the whole think we’re lucky.
