You don’t half talk some shyte. The Betfair has always been his first major target of the season.
ALBERTAS Run is still on course to defend his crowns at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals despite recent mishaps.
Trainer Jonjo O’Neill revealed the 10-year-old pulled a muscle in his back when he ran disappointingly before being pulled up behind Long Run in last week’s King George VI Chase at Kempton.
It came on the back of a crashing fall in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot in November.
Judged on those two runs it appeared the Trevor Hemmings-owned gelding was on the wane. He seemed a shadow of the horse who had won the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham then the John Smith’s Melling Chase at Aintree so impressively last spring.
But O’Neill remains confident he can get his charge back to run at Cheltenham and Aintree. First he is set to run at Ascot next month in the Betfair Chase. O’Neill said: “He pulled some muscles in his back (during the King George) and the vet has seen him. But he is as sound as a pound. He was very stiff on Sunday morning, but he’s okay now.
“He just hurt himself early in the race, but he did get a bad fall at Ascot the time before and he was probably not putting his heart and soul into it. He was probably feeling the effects of the fall the time before.
“
All being well he will go to Asco
t, then the Ryanair and maybe Aintree. He seems to be more of the spring horse. He has had a few problems and they don’t get better as they get older and he is a year older. You hope we can keep him in good form, though.”

February 11, 2011 at 22:38 #339967Big big day tomorrow,i must have gone through the Tote Gold Trophy twenty times and yet from day 1 i still cant go past
Get me out of Here
,admittedly the one horse i didn"t see running was Walkon but i"m convinced he wants 21/2m,so instead of finding a danger to my selection i have gone in again to 5 places with the Sponsers at 9/1,such is my belief in the horse! His 2 runs this season have been poor and his critics will say the handicapper has got his measure, possibly so but i believe this horse showed incredible improvement from November 09 to March 10,so much so that his current mark of 150 looks lenient to me and like i have said before he wouldn"t disgrace himself in this years Champion Hurdle! A Certainty? if his shrewd Trainer has him back to his best,Yes! Menorah would be 3/1 fav for this!
March 18, 2011 at 20:36 #346074I was thinking of you today. Took the 14’s myself and thought I was home and hosed – even after they went past the post! I couldnt even seperate them on the photo finish! Tough one to take.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
August 23, 2011 at 10:59 #368944Those of us who have faith in
Hayley Turner
winning a Group race this season and have supported her at 4/1 had may as well collect now as
Syrian
is a certainty to win one! He reminds me of his Dad so much,(Hawk Wing) i am busy shopping for a price for the 2010, 2,000 gns! TAPK is never far away with his judgement,i like this fellow a lot, hints of
Dancing Brave
is not a phrase i use lightly!!
This quote from July 2009 just goes to show the double edged sword that horseracing is.I always had faith in the Jockey and knew her time would come but Geeezus that horse made me look a fool on many occassions,he was a major dissapointment to all concerned and initial thoughts of that seasons Dewhurst went out the window quicker than Kate Winslet with her A*se on fire! Thats racing! Love it!
January 28, 2012 at 22:16 #388825I remember going through the decs for this years Hennessey Gold Cup and thinking with 10-00lb on his back
Calgary Bay
will think he"s been let loose.Connections decided to run him in the 21/2m handicap instead,i duly backed him at 16/1 and he started the race respectively, but his jumping ultimately let him down!Calgary then went to Doncaster on Saturday and absolutely hosed up,his jumping at times was nothing short of spectacular, the way he springheeled the last and cantered home with 11-10lb on his back left the impression he could still be a Gold cup contender!TAPK couldn"t resist a bit of the 120"s on Betfair and 20"s to place! What i will say though is,if connections decide to keep to the handicap route,Calgary Bay would be a Good thing for the William Hill Chase at the festival, top weight guaranteed! He won off 142 at the weekend, was rated 150 in last years Arkle,so if the handicapper raises him a deserved 12lb,he will go up to 154,which would just make him legible for the Cheltenham handicap over 3m 1f!Should i see 10/1,i will grab it!!
TAPK must be losing his touch! The Official handicapper has only raised
Calgary bay
11lb to a mark of 153,i believe this fellow will end up a 160+ horse before long!
Another quote from 2009,he’ll be touching 160 now though King!
February 9, 2012 at 05:20 #390444Where did he go and why did he leave?
February 11, 2012 at 23:19 #390888Where did he go and why did he leave?
JJM, Your guess is as good as mine but my goodness he was a legend in his own living room!
January 25, 2013 at 21:29 #427469TAPK has been studying a lot of racing re-runs lately and a horse that has impressed me a lot is
Imperial Commander
.
I believe this fellow will win this seasons Gold Cup,But i also think he should not run again until the big day!Imperial is a fine Athletic, slightly long bodied, powerful horse who is a clean reliable jumper! His form figures show he loves Cheltenham,9 of his 14 starts have been round there and that he can be produced to win fresh! As much as he blotted his copybook in last years King George,i forgive him that as i believe in horses for courses!I am well aware that it will take a good one to topple Kauto Star, who doesn"t appear to be deteriorating, but i think he has reached his plateau,Imperial Commander has yet to reach his!His time will come and i wont be worrying about the ground!£50 e/w at 12/1 and £50e/w at 10/1 is a big bet for me!I have already capitalised on 3 figure prices for Albertas Run,so should he manage to run a place i will have a free bet on Imperial!Safety is a word you sometimes need to remember when Gambling! The jurys still out on this fellow!
I know Imperial won last seasons Ryanair and is only entered in 2 races at the festival, Gold Cup, Ryanair! I have just backed him at 40"s on the machine for the latter and 15 to place, just in case Nigel Bottles out of taking the 2 big guns on! Massive prices i know, but thats what i specialise in! Safety in mind at all times!
I wrote the above some 3 years ago now,the rest is history as they say but if Nigels got him fit he’s a certainty……..Just remember he beat ‘Tidal Bay’ off levels in a Betfair Chase and now he’s getting 10lb!!………….I’ll take a close look at him tomorrow hopefully but I wouldn’t be put off that he’s been off for such a long time!…………I’ll dedicate this legendary post to the much missed
reet hard

I was going to say, Gord, until I read your last paragraph, you forgot to mention he was very fast. Heartening noises emanating from those i/c the IC, I believe, regarding his chances in the Gold Cup.
