Good luck to you Gord this week and good luck to Zarkava as well this week.
March 14, 2012 at 09:15 #396513Had
Darlan
got a clearer passage from the off as I’m convinced AP lost it there,he would have won but thats racing, particularly at Cheltenham. The winner looks a progressive sort too mind, that was the start of a poor day!
Al Ferof
would never had won even if he hadn’t blundered his chance away,
Binocular
gave ‘Overturn far too much rope unlike the winner and both
Quantitiveeasing
and
Magnanimity
failed to sparkle.
Alasi
however ran a blinder only to be mugged for 3rd place on the line!
I could easily have backed ‘Hunt Ball’ in the last but left the race alone so here’s hoping for Day 2!March 14, 2012 at 10:06 #396526Nice to see you are unbowed by yesterday’s slings and arrows.
March 14, 2012 at 23:23 #396826Its been a great day today Eclipse but one that could have been my best ever,
Four commanders
ran well to be placed at 12/1,
Batonnier
was a bit of bad luck being a N/R but would he have beaten ‘Simonsig’? No!
First Lieutenant
was beaten by a slow early pace but still ran an absolute cracker and at all prices down from 20/1 proved why backing e/w is an absolute must!
The same can be said forGet me out of here
,he ran right up to his mark and again did me proud, the winners 2nd to ‘Sir des champs’ giving him weight was a stand out,66/1 was way too big and he was a well placed winner. No complaints!

Kazlian
at 12/1 gave me my 4th profitable bet of the day!
Sizing Europe
was ‘unfortunate’ but would he have won? I dont think so and
Horatio Hornblower
was only a small stakes loser so at the halfway point I still have No winners but I’m dodging away nicely.3 more Big wagers to come on
Somersby/Medermit
,
Sea of Thunder
and
Synchronised
,fingers crossed!
March 15, 2012 at 16:57 #396990On the board at last KF! The Ryanair didn’t disappoint as the race of the week.
I’m still awaiting another Irish Winner to land the 4-6 mark that VC offered at 6/1 last week.March 15, 2012 at 17:12 #396993Gord how you done so far mate i had Simonsig at 14/1 and Sir Des Champs at 12/1 i was gutted on Voler La Veddete. i had a 33/1 to win ticket as you know i don’t do ew so gutted over her defeat.
And i can’t see a horse stopping SIMONSIG in the arkle next year and
SIR DES CHAMPS in the gold cup.March 15, 2012 at 17:53 #397008Connections saw it our way thank goodness darren by running
Sir des Champs
in the ‘Jewson’! He has paid for my festival at 12/1 which took longer than I anticipated having had 3 other bankers finish 2nd, ‘Darlan’ 12/1,’Get me out of Here’ 16/1 and ‘First Lieutenant’ 20/1 but thats why I am TAPK,my foresight for finding big horses for big targets at big prices is phenomenal!
I nailedCape Tribulation
at 25/1 as anyone who reads my drivel knows from ‘Gone Fishing’ that I backed him with ‘Calgary Bay’ twice this year!….Loyalty is key to me so my voice has all but gone cheering home
Albertas Run
for the 4th year,he’s a legend to me.My Ryanair target horse
Medermit
again proved he was better than a handicapper and at 20/1 another profitable race for the 8th consecutive time it proved to be for me,’Somersby’ dissapointed but 2nd and 3rd will do! My second Banker of today did exactly what I knew he would do….look like he was struggling,he is ‘Wichita Lineman’ reincarnated as everytime
Sunnyhill Boy
touched 30’s in running I snaffled it,22’s 20’s the lot as i knew he would find for his Jockey, having also took 21’s and 16/1 and 14/1 Ante-Post,this year like every year is a good one! Roll on tomorrow with
Sea of Thunder
16/1 and
Synchronised
19’s and 16/1,14/1 and 12/1.
Those of a weak disposition shouldn’t read threads like this!March 16, 2012 at 08:46 #397150Some say that this years Gold Cup is a 2 horse race between ‘King Kauto’ v ‘Long Run’.It would make some spectacle the pair jumping the last and battling it out………and then they woke up! I can find a fault with every horse in this years race…..’Kauto Star’ simple! Preperation and age! ‘Burton Port’ A year off injured and the ‘Bounce’ factor! ‘Weird Al’ too inexperienced and shouts ‘Grand National 2013′ to me!’Midnight Chase’ Great Handicapper, thats it! ‘Diamond Harry’ too fagile but has had breathing problems, could surprise! ‘What a friend’ still a doubt about his tenacity! ‘Carruthers’ good pacemaker! ‘Time for Rupert’ his recent form is lousy But? ‘The Midnight club’,’China Rock’,’Knockara Beau’ and ‘The Giant Bolster’ are simply not good enough! That leaves 3 horses…..’Quel Esprit’ the dark dark horse of the race,if he jumps he could surprise and place. That leaves 2…..’Long Run’,I cant fault him and 9/4 is Big,I have said he goes off 13/8fav for weeks now and still think he will,he is the champ and the one to beat…………But there is one to beat him! A very lightly raced but heavily battled horse who will out stay the whole field,a dual Midlands National Winner and welsh National winner too! Watches
Synchronised
,he thinks he’s heading up to Uttoxeter tomorrow too!
March 16, 2012 at 15:30 #397233The Gold Cup
,
Having lost my first Ante-Post bet on ‘Quito de la Roque’,my main selection now isSynchronised
at 18’s and 12/1,he is probably the biggest surprise of my Ante-Post book as he always looked like an out and out staying handicapper but then again thats exactly what you needed in days gone past,I have also done a small place only bet on ‘Hey big spender’ N/R and ‘Medermit’ at 190’s and ‘Magnanimity’ at 100’s N/R too.I fear only one horse and thats the reigning champ ‘Long Run’.Should ‘Hurricane Fly’ and ‘Sizing Europe’ both win I will be sitting on a voucher for the treble with ‘Long run’ at 36’s!
Danger? ‘Long run’he looks a beast in the flesh!
Previous winners- ‘Burrough Hill Lad’ 6/1 ‘Charter Party’ 14/1,
‘Best Mate’ 3/1, ‘War of Attrition’ 10/1, ‘Denman’ 10/1, ‘Imperial Commander’33/1.I’m more than quietly confident about
Synchronised
,but I’ve said enough about him over the years so I’ll let him do the talking now!
Fantastic Gord – well done!!!
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
March 16, 2012 at 16:29 #397240Synchronised

March 16, 2012 at 17:38 #397256Well done gord
March 16, 2012 at 22:55 #397338Thank you guys, praise from fellow contributors who aren’t afraid to put their heads on the line themselves is much appreciated. Its been a brilliant festival as usual and to finish in profit is always the plan! Of all my many bets i can honestly say that I have been dissapointed with only 2 horses,
Al Ferof
and
Sea of Thunder
.I have tried to put up my banker bets of the week with reasons as to why I have fancied them and again they never let me down, every horse ran in exactly the race I predicted after what seemed like ‘Musical Chairs’ So I have been lucky!
Darlan
, 12/1,
Get me out of Here
,16/1,
First Lieutenant
,20/1,
Medermit
, 20/1, and
Kumbeshwar
, 16/1, all showed a good placed profit,
Trifolium
,14/1,
Four commanders
,12/1,
Kalzian
, 10/1,
Chapoturgeon
,7/1,
Toner doudairies
,10/1 and
Alasi
,20/1 never lost me money and
Sir des Champs
12/1,
Sunnyhill Boy
, 16/1 and the legend
Synchronised
16/1 all won at prices only Foresight will find! For the record I also backed
Cape Tribulation
at 25/1 and
Bellvano
at 25/1,call me all the aftertiming B*stards you like.I dont mind! 366 days of study pays off yet again and I am knackered! Tom Segal you are still the 2nd best judge of a horse!
Thank you and Goodnight.March 17, 2012 at 00:53 #397365Loyalty does indeed pay off…
Cape Tribulation
made my Cheltenham – despite an unsatisfactory Friday. In my defense, i didn’t believe
Attaglance
could handle an extra 9lbs, let alone ground that wasn’t particularly kind to mudlarks (although in hindsight i should’ve taken
Reindeer Dippin
‘s strong run behind
CT
as a sign). Should loyalty be blind? Somehow i don’t believe so.
Nice to see you had a good week, Kingfisher – thought i’d pop back for a quick cuppa.
March 18, 2012 at 19:38 #397623Wildman,weren’t you the guy who followed me over a cliff towards the end of the flat season?
Patience is a virtue and Confidence is King!
March 19, 2012 at 14:46 #397731KF: Awesome festival with some cracking results
I feel somewhat guilty as despite sending a few good uns your way this season I was also guilty of nudging you towards Horation Hornblower! If I had half a brain I would have known the horse was a year too young (shakesheadindisbelief at not checking trends until it was too late!). However I still believe he will turn out to be a decent type
Happily I had already backed Hunt Ball before your reply and what a brave horse that one is! Nice for a small trainer and owner to ‘find’ that lil beauty!
On to the other races:
Negatives: How disappointing were both Sea of Thunder and Weird Al (never looked like getting competitive let alone winning!!). Al Ferof (like many of Nicholls team) looked wrong and ran far too bad to be true! Shame about Batonnier getting injured BUT would he have got close to Simonsig? We will never know.
Positives: GMOOH ran another cracker, getting to be the bravest but unlickiest handicapper in training! Jumping aboard Cape Tribulation was sound BUT ignoring the same yards ATAGLANCE purely because he had gone up too far was shameful and stupid!
Flight Lieutenant was extremely unlucky IMO to have to make his own running in the end, Davy had no choice as the lad was pulling his arms off! Without doubt this stopped him finishing but a nice EW bet all the same and I am sure we have not seen the best of him yet!
SIMONSIG was imperious, jumped swiftly and from fully half a mile out looked the only winner, what a shame I backed him for the Supreme too before they went NRNB
Again what a jumper, where will they head next year? Originally the plan was chasing BUT he looked so good they may have to wait another year, maybe the Champion Hurdle as that department looks weak?SDC was without doubt my most enjoyable winner
what an awesome exhibition of jumping he gave, possibly the best of the week! He will be back for the Gold Cup, cannot see them waiting a year and taking in the Ryanair, let them all battle it out in the Gold Cup
Finally, just in case you missed it, re-run the end of the Triumph Hurdle!! Ruby had been outpaced out the back and was just getting into contention when he slipped on landing, the horse tried everything he could to stay up and would have got 2nd or even better!! One for the future especially when upped in trip, maybe at Aintree.
The Nicholls horses from Ditcheat were dire!! Thankfully the satellite yard held their own! I for one will be watching closely as the Ditcheat gang start running this week-end! Once they are right, we can start to lump on for Aintree and Punchestown
March 19, 2012 at 14:46 #397732Zarks: Still think SDC is bad?
March 19, 2012 at 17:12 #397744You are a good judge GDC.You assessed
Hunt Ball
better than me! I hope you took the 12/1! You are also bang on about
First Lieutenant
, the tactics hindered rather than helped his chances like you say,he’s still a Gold Cup horse to me and the pace of that race will suit him perfectly.I would still love to see
Sir des Champs
in the Ryanair if that were the case!

I’ve had a £50 (Henderson) acca,,
Simonsig
,Arkle,
Darlan
,Champion hurdle,
Sprinter Sacre
, Champion chase,
Finians Rainbow
, Ryanair,
Bobs Worth
Gold Cup! It will make me a Million pounds!
