    World Hurdle

    ,
Daft as it may sound I have backed

    Mikael d’Haguenet

at 33/1,if he could return to something like his old self a place is not out of his reach,I like ‘Smad Place’ as a horse and can see him running in this,I like a gutsy Grey in the World hurdle!
    Dangers? ‘Big Bucks’ could surprise!
Previous winners-‘Inglis Drever’ every year he won!

I can see ‘Big Bucks’ losing to

    Oscar Whiskey

but I’m sticking with my selection for a place!

Bit of afteriming again but I did bet ‘Oscar whiskey’ to beat the Champ! I fell into the ‘Henderson’ thing and lost on the race!

    Byrne Group Plate

There’s only one horse for me in this and its

    Calgary Bay

, Hens lost count how many times I have asked her to run him and she still maintains he’s going straight to Aintree,of course my charm and Charisma and naturally handsome ways will work her over, she will succumb and the Big lad will canter round with top weight.I have snaffled 16/1 in reality but I’ll keep dreaming he turns up!
Dangers? ‘Great Endeavour’ ‘Divers’ ‘Salut flo’ now he’s well weighted!
    Previous winners-None

‘Calgs’ a N/R so I’m sticking with collateral form through him and going for

    Hectors Choice

    ,at 14/1 e/w of course!

I could easily say I did ‘Salut Flo’ but I didn’t,small stakes losing race!

    Kim Muir

    I love this race and

    Junior

did us proud last year in what was the gamble of the meeting, this year its

    Backstage

for me and at 16/1 I’m confident he’ll do us proud again,it will be just rewards for failing to qualify for the Foxhunters!
Dangers? Again ;Sunnyhill Boy’ he’s a danger wherever he runs!
    Previous winners- ‘Junior’ 16/1, 2011 returned 10/30.

    Edit-

    Backstage

    out injured,

    SunnyHill boy

is now the selection here at 14/1,I’m on at 21’s too!

I’m very confident about this one!

Very confident and a fantastic victory, everything went to plan and from a Bet in running point of view…PERFECT!

    Supreme Nov Hurdle

    ,
    I can confidently put up

    Darlan

here,I’m on at 18’s and 12/1,he reminds me a lot of ‘Get Me Out Of Here’ and apart from a crashing fall when looking like a certain winner last time out to me, he’s improved a good 20lb since his last visit to Cheltenham,so long as he’s not lost any confidence and is physically sound I believe Nicky will let him take his chance in this a favourite race of mine! Dangers? ‘Trifolium’!
Previous Successes- ‘Forest sun’ 20/1 returned 7/4fav 1990 and ‘Arcalis’ 25/1 returned 20/1.

Well seeing as you’re having a drink before starting on Day 4, I’ll start now.

Strange lack of ex-flat winners in this race over the years. Just Arcalis & Ebaziyan won, while Straw Bear & Westender finished 2nd.

But I’m a huge fan of Montjeu as a sire and couldn’t understand the negativity behind him last year, especially since he’s sired 3 Derby winners (Epsom & Cheltenham both undulating and left-handed). I was seriously impressed with Midnight Game’s performance LTO & there’s no doubt he’ll stay further, which you really need to do to win this.

I’m slightly concerned by Davy Russell deciding whether he wants to ride him or Trifolium, as I don’t rate Trifolium that highly, but Midnight Game will be cruising round whether he or Paul Townend rides.

I’m worried about Galileo’s Choice, who’s put up some stonking ratings, but at the same time he’s trained by Weld who has an awful Festival record. Not too concerned about anything else.

    £50 at 14/1

Previous Success – only 2003 Back In Front, but I’m only 24 and Gord’s about 54 so that’s ok :)

    The Arkle

    ,
Ok so this ‘Sprinter Sacre’ looks the real deal but is he made of glass or Steel, this race will tell us! I’m on

    Al Ferof

12’s and 10/1 with some 7/1 too.I’m sticking with him through all the hype this fav’s getting,my horse is hard as nails and will fly up the hill, the Fav will set it up perfectly and The Grey will do what he did last year and beat him again imo.
Dangers?’Sprinter Sacre’ if he gats away from mine! ‘Peddlars Cross’ if he jumps cleanly!
    Previous Winners-‘Commandante’ 16/1,1990 returned 9/1, ‘Forpadydeplasterer’ 25/1,2009 returned 8/1

Difficult to envisage my selection Al Ferof doing the business with this monster Sprinter Sacre having shown what he can do.

    £93.25 at 12s, £11 at 10s

Previous success – quite a bit actually. Azertyuiop in 2003, ForPadyDePlasterer at 14s in 2009, Captain Chris at 20s in 2011

    Champion Hurdle

    ,
Another favourite race of mine but this year I have lost near on £1500 on

    Spirit Son

,its always a sickener and you never get used to it but the highs of Ante-Post betting have always far outweighed the losses so its a case of move on! On what I have seen I beleive the e/w bet of the day has to be

    Binocular

at 5/1,he is the easiest horse in the world to know if he’s on a good day just by looking at AP’s style in the saddle,he rides this fellow like no other horse and when he’s good he’s very good,a repeat of his last run is enough to give the reigning champ a fright,I’m on at 10’s on the machine to recover my losses,I’ll be happy with that!
Dangers? ‘Hurricane Fly’ Obviously! and ‘Zarkandar’ still more to come from this fellow who will fly up the hill too!
    Previous Winners-‘Celtic Shot’ 20/1,1988 returned 8/1
    ‘Morley Street’ 10/1,1991 returned 4/1.

Should be a case of how far for Hurricane Fly I think.

Zarkandar my main concern after putting up a lot of efforts with some superb form.

    £200 at 9/4, £100 at 7/4 (along with fewer than 12 runners & Charlton to win League 1, 17/1)

Previous success – Punjabi at 14s in 2009 (SP 20/1 grrr)

    RSA

Here we go,the gloves are off big time on this race another fav of mine.My extremely confident selection here is

    First Lieutenant

,he’s shown nothing like the form that saw him fly up the hill in last years ‘Neptune’but he has Chaser written all over him and I have been backing him for almost a year for this at 20/1 down.I have exactly the same feeling about him as i did ‘Weapons Amnesty’ and back then we had ‘Long run’ and ‘Burton Port’ to worry about,I fear nothing and put this fellow down as my Banker of the day!
Dangers? ‘Grand Crus’ If he battles like mine!
    Previous Winners-Too many to list but ‘Trabolgan’16/1 2005 returned 5/1,’Denman’ 10/1 2007 returned Evs, ‘Albertas Run’ 25/1 2008 returned 4/1, ‘Weapons Amnesty’ 16/1 2010 returned 10/1.

Well I was on Hidden Cyclone after Xmas, but since he wasn’t entered I was forced to find another selection. Put up and backed Invictus a couple of days before the Reynoldstown.

First Lieutenant has absolutely no chance & if I had to select any horse at sub-10/1 that will 100% definitely lose at the Festival, it would be him.

My main concern I think is Bob’s Worth.

    £20 at 70s/75s (66s post-commission)

Previous success – Cooldine in 2009 at 7/1 (biggest bet I had all year I think)

    Neptune hurdle

My main hope hear is that ‘Boston Bob’runs in this and not the ‘Albert Bartlett’ but I do like this

    Battonnier

,he ticks my boxes and have backed him at 12’s,again he has chaser written all over him just like Denman and First Lieutenant did and thay both ran crackers in this,I like this fellow a lot, next years RSA winner imo and I’ve backed that up at 66/1!
Dangers? ‘Simonsig’If he stays on the bridle!
    Previous winners-‘Nicanor’ 16/1 2006 returned 8/1.

Well it looks like my ante-post bet won’t even get a run based on the money yesterday for Sous Le Cieux in the Supreme. Don’t think it’s a fantastic race by any stretch. Not one runner really appeals, but he appeals more than most. Strong stats against most of the runners & I’ll just be cheering on an Irish winner to help my 10+ Irish Winners bet become a winner.

    £50 Sous Le Cieux 16/1

    Champion Chase

    I cant go past

    Sizing Europe

even if ‘Somersby’ runs which I hope he doesn’t! I’m on at 7/2 with an interest at 14/1 in a double,I really cant see anything troubling him and even evens looks generous to me,a certainty if he stands up for sure!
Dangers? ‘Somersby’ if he runs!Nothing else!
    Previous winners; ‘One Man’ 12/1 1998,returned 7/2, ‘Azertyuiop’ 10/1,2004 returned 2/1.

He’s a monster. He’s never fallen over fences & I think he’s probably the best 2m chaser I’ve seen. A career unfortunately blighted by injury, we can only dream what he could’ve achieved.

    Biggest worry is Big Zeb.

    £100 11/1 double with Big Buck’s, £50 at 14s (Tingle Creek double)

    Champion Bumper

I like the bumper,I liked both ‘Cue Card’ and ‘Al Ferof’ from a couple of years ago but nothing caught my eye in last years,we’ll see nearer the time.

All over Moscow Mannon. Has put up some superb ratings & I’m convinced he’ll be a lot better on quicker ground and also round Cheltenham given his sire.

    Biggest worry is Clonbanan Lad.

    Day 3,

    The Jewson Chase

    ,
A difficult one this as ‘Al Ferof’ and ‘Peddlers Cross’ are both entered but my colours are purple and

    Sir Des champs

ticks all the boxes,he looks a very progressive sort who at the moment would make his owner a fine ‘Ryanair’ candidate for next year!He looks classy and has a wicked turn of foot,he’s banker material so long as the other 2 dont run.I have backed him at 12/1.
Dangers? ‘Al ferof’ and ‘Peddlers Cross’ if they run!
    Previous winners-None.

Sir Des Champs I think has been incredibly overrated on the back of his victory at Cheltenham last year. He’s put up some very poor performances and ratings over fences & I cannot believe he’s the price he is.

I’ve been very impressed with Solix & I think he’s a much better horse when fresh. He’ll have the beating of Champion Court at the Festival no question. He beat Duke of Lucca by 12 lengths in November – Cristal Bonus beat him by 13 yesterday.

    Biggest worry is Cristal Bonus

    £60 at 14s, £40 at 12s, £10 at 14s

    Pertemps hurdle final

    ,
    Another great handicap which sees

    Buena Vista

come alive all but once a year, its incredible how he just doesn’t want to know until Cheltenham in March comes around, who says horses aren’t clever? :shock:He’s done me proud in this race before and I’ll cheer him and Haddon on again this year.I’m on at 12/1.
Dangers? ‘Sunnyhill Boy’, ‘Ashkazar’, ‘Barwell Boy’
    Previous winners-‘Buena Vista’16/1 and 20/1,2010,2011.

For some reason I laid out about £200 in this race last year. God knows what I was playing at.

I hope Gord’s right. Horses for courses.

    The Ryanair

    ,
Or should I say the race of the meeting! My record in this race is second to none,my highlight over the years has to be ‘Albertas Run’ he’s always been a star to me and one of my biggest money spinners!
I have supported him again this year and will cheer him home if he’s still in there with a chance, however i have to be realistic and accept he’s 11yo now and my 2 fancies are only 8yo.When I say I cant split

    Somersby

    and

    Medermit

I mean I cant split them,if they both put their best foot forward they will jump the last together and battle up the hill together,a dead heat will suit me fine as I have backed both at 20/1 to big stakes.
Dangers? A plenty thats why its the race of the meeting imo.
Previous winners- I’ve never lost on the race!

Can’t believe Rubi Light was available at 25s at the start of the season & I’m very thankful for someone on here putting him up, else I wouldn’t be on. Looks a very competitive, open race to me & I wouldn’t be backing anything at the current prices.

Biggest worry is Riverside Theatre. Put up a seriously quick time LTO & I backed him in the Arkle, so I’m well-aware how quickly he came up that hill 2 years ago.

    £40 25/1

Previous winners-‘Inglis Drever’ every year he won!

Big Buck’s, although I’m slightly worried about So Young and Thousand Stars, although I’d rather see them run here than in the Champion. Not too concerned about Oscar Whisky. Don’t think he’s good enough or that he’ll stay.

£100 double at 11/1 with Sizing Europe

    Triumph hurdle

    ,
Here’s another one we dissagree on Sacred,I was on 2 of Paul Nicholls,’Dildar’ and

    Pearl Swan

,I’m more than happy with the latter and still think he’s got the beating of your ‘Grumeti’,Its between the 2 though! May the best horse win!I’m on at 10/1.
    Dangers? ‘Grumeti’
    Previous winners,’First bout’ 10/1,’Penzance’ 12/1, ‘Celestial halo’ 12/1,

    Sticking to

    Pearl Run

at 10/1,will have a saver on ‘Grumeti’ though!

Poor result but only to medium stakes including ‘Dildar’!N/R

    County hurdle

    ,
Another great handicap but one I haven’t had the winner of for over 25yrs incredibly and my main selection will probably keep that record intact.

    Ciceron

is a beautiful looking chestnut but looks dont win County hurdles,he has the ability to run a big race and i can see Vennetia priming him for this,so long as he gets in,’Raya star’ should be my selection as he ticks all the boxes but I’ll keep the faith! I’m on at 33/1.
    Dangers? ‘Raya star’ serious player!
Previous winners-‘Floyd and Jobroke back in the 80’s!

    I’m on

    Raya Star

at 14/1 for this and am quietly confident!

Tricky old race but again only small stakes loser!
