Anyone think First Flow has a shot at placing? 2 of his 3 hurdle wins were on heavy. Surely he will like the conditions?
March 12, 2018 at 16:19 #1345920First Flow has won at Haydock on heavy, so my concern with him would be that the ground won’t quite be slow enough for him!
March 12, 2018 at 18:08 #1345948I like the horse vautour did me a good turn lto, but like degaussed said, this will be a different “heavy” from haydock, he was never coming here initially, not sure what swayed them, said the horse didnt need the hustle and bustle of cheltenham, but here he is…
March 12, 2018 at 20:18 #1345985Not been too lucky here.
Ended up with
Getabird 5/1
Claimantakinforgan 12/1Getabird is a nice bet, Claimantakingforgan lost value in the last months.
Earlier backed If the Cap Fits 10/1 and Vision des Flos at 100/1 EW. Especially disappointed with Vision des Flos not going here with this ground after his Exeter run.
March 12, 2018 at 20:23 #1345988Was happy to back Getabird at 2/1 (or thereabouts) but the going could mean others relish conditions more, damn this soft ground, or will it be soft/heavy?
March 12, 2018 at 23:15 #1346062@Degaussed going exactly with the same. Both Summerville Boy and First Flow.
Love Kalashnikov and for me the best horse in the race but the ground will not suit too much.
March 12, 2018 at 23:17 #1346063Ben- looks to be more on the heavy side.
March 12, 2018 at 23:42 #1346069I think Getabird is already passed the post in this one. Easy to make a case for First Flow and Summerville Boy on account of the ground, but Getabird should appreciate the conditions just as much if not more so.
I’d wager Getabird is easily a stone better than anything else in the race, excluding perhaps Kalashnikov, who we all agree will not appreciate the conditions underfoot quite as much as those aforementioned.
People have voiced concerns about his ability to go left-handed, but David Casey assured viewers at a recent preview night that he goes left-handed all the time at home without any issue.
I’m hoping for a slight drift tomorrow morning (we should get 2s, hoping for 9/4 is surely dreamland?) before putting my money where my mouth is, and will cover the outlay with the money-back special offers on Summerville Boy.
Terrible race for me again this year, lets hope Getabird can make up for Annamix in the same colours.
Best of luck everybody.
March 13, 2018 at 12:48 #1346146Thanks for that update re ground Ham
I’m on Getabird and going to put a little more on him I think, doesn’t look the strongest race and feel that thumping he gave Mengili Khan is the best form on offer and the horse is likely to improve too.
Just rolled up a green cigarette, going to eat some leftover roast dinner then have a smoke before the racing commences, bliss :)
March 13, 2018 at 13:28 #1346162Mengli Khan my last minute bet on this at 16s EW.
Have a great festival everyone!
March 13, 2018 at 13:31 #1346164No a big betting race for me this, but I’ve taken a bit of e/w Mengli Khan at 16/1.
Good luck todayMarch 13, 2018 at 13:32 #1346167As I said earlier, my thinking is that, if it wasn’t a fluke, Summerville Boy might have improved for the Heavy ground last time. Once the rains came I decided to take a chance on Summerville Boy at 12/1.
It’s not a confident pick but I didn’t see that Kalashnikov should be half the odds.
Getabird may be the class act but not for me at the odds, especially in these ground conditions.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 13, 2018 at 13:41 #1346168That was unbelievable guys, came back when it looked like it was just going to be a placed effort, and after a bad jump came back again to head kalashnikov none other. This horse is a very good one, very much like the 2nd.
March 13, 2018 at 13:44 #1346169i am going to aftertime and i dont care but i loved this horses attitude at sandown and that was staggering
March 13, 2018 at 13:46 #1346170well done those who got the winner and mengili!!
March 13, 2018 at 13:47 #1346171Great start to the festival for me, so naturally I won’t get another winner!
Great race to start!
March 13, 2018 at 13:51 #1346173Summerville Boy must be some horse to make the mistakes he did and get up to win.
Both First Flow and Getabird seemed finished 2/3s through. Not sure if this is due to them not being up to this standard, or because the jockeys set off at a mad pace?
