Sad news taken from the BBC Sport live feed website this morning:

0946 HORSE RACING: Grey steeplechaser Suny Bay has died at the age of 22. The horse was trained by Charlie Brooks and won the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. Suny Bay also twice finished second in the Grand National, including in the famous Monday race after the bomb scare in 1997.

I was only thinking about him the other day [probably because of Dubacilla]. Always took the inside route [when the fences WERE fences]. RIP beautiful brave horse; and condolences to your lad who was so devoted to you.

So unfair that this beautiful horse died like this. I can’t find anything about his death on the racing channels, after all his achievements.

Very sorry to hear the news, such a game horse a true steeplechaser,
I presume age caught up with him sadly…R.I.P.

Unfortunately it wasn’t age. He was 22, but he died because he broke his leg in his field, I believe. I just hope some-one realised quickly and helped him before he suffered too much.

Like poor Mr Frisk; slipped on the road out hacking, having jumped all those fences safely. Seems so unfair.
