This race currently looks the trickiest to assess for the Ante-post punter.
There is an abundance of potential 3m Novice chasers to look forward to,
2 of the early Ante-post favs do not appeal to me at all Cooldine and Beshabar but i do like Tranquil sea, Breedsbreeze, Thetotherone,Fiveforthree, Wichita lineman and one in particular Massinis
maguire i look forward with interest as to how they progress!November 3, 2008 at 20:04 #187738I’m interested in a very speculative long ranger on Tartak of Tom George’s but cannot find a price anywhere.
I’m sure that’s telling me something
November 3, 2008 at 20:17 #187740I agree that Tranquil Sea looks like one of the best Irish horses over 3miles and is very exciting, They just went too fast for him in the Supreme Novices and he has improved the further he goes and will be the one for me at 25-1
I think that Fivefourthree is a good horse too and should be good over course and distance – would just like to know if he can jump – guessing Ruby would not be riding him this year – but we will see.
Of the Englsih bunch I still remain a fan of Lodge Lane I am just not sure Cheltenham is his course having had 2 strange and disappointing runs. Did he finish injure last year?). Nenuphar Collonges has already run and won in chases in France so won’t be a novice. One thing I am sure of is the The Tother One will not stay 3 miles around Cheltenham.
Should be a great bunch of Irish Horses. Shame about Venalmar
November 3, 2008 at 23:22 #187779Venalmar had the look of a chaser of great promise lets hope he is back next year! Fiveforthree being related to Celestial Gold should be well suited to 3m and could go right to the top if he can jump!! Massinis Maguire beat Tidal bay fair and square at Cheltenham and has a profile similar to Albertas run so i am looking forward to see him jump a fence!
The doubt i have with the Totherone is his stamina 21/2m could be his ideal trip and theres a race at the festival over that trip! The same applies to Kicks for free! Breedsbreeze is being targeted for the Sun Alliance chase and looks the No1 P.Nicholls entry! Tranquil sea ran down his fences yesterday and will improve a lot for the run! still a long way to go and proving to be a wide open contest! It will be a great race!November 3, 2008 at 23:35 #187783I fear that Forpadydeplasterer may also fall into the category of horses that would be best over 2m4f. He struggled to win in the mud on hi last run, and was said to be fit beforehand (friends are in the owners syndicate).
He was out stayed at the last festival so we will see!November 4, 2008 at 00:08 #187789If there is a horse tailor made for the Arkle its Padydeplasterer a stiff 2m will suit him down to the ground and looks every inch a chaser currently 20/1 for the race looks tempting very lightly raced individual who can only improve!

He doesn’t have an earthly based on both his poorish performance in March and his curates egg of a chase debut last week. He may make the grade in time, but I reckon it will be as a handicapper over two and a half miles. He represents zero value for the Arkle at the moment.

Forpadydeplasterer doesn’t appear to be in the same league as either I’msingingtheblues or Tatenen at the moment, and if he’s as short as 20/1 then he has to be left well alone. His chasing debut was nothing short of disasterous for a horse so well fancied in ante-post markets, and I can’t see him being top class over any trip, let alone two miles.
November 6, 2008 at 00:28 #188199Don’t see why Ruby wouldn’t be riding Fiveforthree. He has no retainer with Nicholls which means he can’t ride the Mullins horse and will ride the best available.
Pretty sure that Fiveforthree is going right to the very very top and he’ll be the number one Irish contender come March (have backed him accordingly).

November 6, 2008 at 01:20 #188203Fiveforthree is cosely related to Celestial Gold so 2m is out of the question
this horse is a Sun Alliance horse!November 6, 2008 at 01:41 #188209Mullins was quoted in the RP stable tour on 20 October that Fiveforthree is proving a bit slow to come to hand. He said that the aim is to go chasing, but he is unlikely to be seen this side of Christmas. If he feels they cannot get enough chasing experience into him before Cheltenham they’ll revert to hurdles and go novice chasing next year.
Might pay to hold fire antepost on this one.
November 6, 2008 at 14:34 #188313Was told the same over the summer but that he’s schooled as well as anything he’s had. Disappointing if he doesn’t make the fences this season – don’t think 16’s is a bad price though.
November 9, 2008 at 20:27 #188931Breedsbreeze puts himself up there with the best Novice chasers this season with a workmanlike performance over 2m5f at Wincanton yesterday! I felt his jumping could have been better but he carefully made his way round! Still not 100% convinced he"s a 3m+ horse but defineately has a classy profile!
November 10, 2008 at 15:33 #189038I really liked the look of What a Friend, made his chase debut at Uttoxeter a couple of weeks ago, had a very brief hurdling career were he had a handicap rating of 135. He beat a good horse in Carruthers, who was also making his chase debut.

How can a horse ‘put himself up there with the best novice chasers’ with only a ‘workmanlike performance’?
Aran Concerto was massively impressive in Ireland yesterday and is a horse with a very exciting future. I still think even the 14/1 about him is worth taking and he’d be my biggest ante-post interest.
November 10, 2008 at 18:09 #189058I thought Aran Concerto did it as well as he could, but my concern punting him AP is that IMO he needs it soft
Nevada Royale is one that interests me. Had a huge reputation last year & we’ll find out more when he runs in the novice chase at Exeter tomorrow. I am going to have a few quid on before then
November 10, 2008 at 18:41 #189064Equitrack, Gold Cup winners can be described as Workmanlike! Denman for instance Grinds his opponents into submission with his resolute galloping! Harchibald on the other hand wouldn"t have a days work in him!
Breedsbreeze was not a flashy winner unlike his stable companion I"msingingtheblues was! Ruby had to get down to "work" on Breedsbreeze and the horse responded gallantly and won like a horse who will hold his own in Grade 1 company! You will hear the word again! -
