Looking forward to the entries coming out for The Galway Plate tomorrow, though if all the horses on my “shortlist” are in there, it’s going to be a bit of a nightmare lol.
Looking to the other big prize next week, The Galway Hurdle, there’s a very interesting runner at Ballinrobe tonight. I had a decent time of it in The Hurdle last year, with 2 placed at decent prices, and one of them, Princely Conn, I managed to nab at +70’s each way. He ran a screamer, and he won’t be that price this year. Off a while, but this run tonight is surely to freshen him up, and good to see him back in action.
July 27, 2017 at 01:08 #1311454Sharlanda back out tonight Grass, and not the worst card at Limerick. She’s running in the 1740, and it looks between her, and At Rainbows End, who’s finally showing the form she should have earlier. I like the pair of them, and have been following At Rainbows End, since she was put up by Stilvi, but I think Sharlanda, based on what we seen last time, could just nick it.
Another couple I’ve got an eye on, The Wests Awake, and Cable, both take in The Beginners Chase, and though very early days for them, I’m confident they can both reach a decent standard.
July 27, 2017 at 05:13 #1311459Looks like we’re not the only ones keen on Sharlanda- she’s fairly short for me. Had a look to see if I could double her with something else and the beginners chase is the most interesting, but I couldn’t pick between the pair you have mentioned. So left all alone. Good luck if you’re playing.
July 27, 2017 at 14:52 #1311492Cheers Grass, but definitely sitting it out.
July 28, 2017 at 06:53 #1311556Well she hacked up. Put a bit on Theatre Wine EW in beginners chase at Wexford today and a small rev fc with V de Ronceray .
July 29, 2017 at 13:27 #1311780Grass, I haven’t seen the race yet, and at caravan so WIFI is desperate, and can’t watch replay, but from the RP comments, was Theatre Wine bounding along in front before the mishap?
As for Thursday night, very early days, and most of the big yards not fired they’re shots yet, but surely Sharlanda and The Wests Awake have, at the very least, a a half decent season ahead of them?
July 29, 2017 at 23:02 #1311882She wasn’t quite bossing the race as much as the comments suggest but was going pretty well. Stood off the first and flew it, put in a short one at the second but got herself over efficiently. Distant shot of the next couple so couldn’t really see (quite annoying when you’re trying to assess the jumping of young chasers though I suppose you can’t expect camera cars for midweek fixtures at smaller tracks). Sort of stepped at the one where she came down and V de R’s unseat was similar. The perils of betting on beginners’ chases I suppose! I will keep following both of them as they don’t seem innately bad jumpers. Think TW needs to listen to her jockey instead of making it up as she goes along but I’d much rather a young horse was making happy slapdash mistakes like this than miserably rocking-horsing over fences. She rejoined the pack for the sport and bowled along loose at the front for a bit instead of buggering off back to the stables too. I know it’s a herd instinct thing but I always like to watch what loose horses do.
Didn’t watch all the other races but Mags Mullins’ Get Smart won his maiden nicely.
Agree Sharlanda and TWA may go on to do well.
What do you think of the 2m4f handicap chase at Uttoxeter tomorrow? I like Braqueur D’Or and think 5/2 is fair so have backed him hoping he goes on soft OK. Bit surprised Wadswick Court is out again a week after working hard for his 2nd LTO. Gentleman Jon isn’t a bad price…I dunno…watched his last couple of replays…not wholly convinced by his jumping. Henryville jumped downright badly at Market Rasen I thought, didn’t look to be enjoying it at all.July 30, 2017 at 11:08 #1311932Good update Grass, still haven’t seen the replays, but you don’t seem too disheartened about TW, so I’ll keep an eye out for next time.
Disappointed about the 2 non runners in that handicap at Uttoxeter. I really like Gentleman Jon in this, and was even happier with the 8’s, but that’ll be butchered now by the rule 4.
A very quiet betting weekend for me, well makes sense with Galway and Goodwood coming up. I bet 3 in The Gigaset, but not particularly big stakes, and I had a small tricast in a race at York, but I’m very happy to have more or less sat things out yesterday, and hopefully I can get a couple of winners this week.
July 30, 2017 at 22:27 #1311993Well you were right, or righter than me anyway as Gentleman Jon travelled, jumped and finished well. My hat’s off to Wadswick Court for that hard fought win in soft after his tough finish last week. Although they didn’t kill themselves with pace early on in today’s race.
Braqueur D’Or didn’t get his head down and scrap at the end, don’t know if that will come with experience or not.
No bets for me at Galway tomorrow, I’ll see if inspiration strikes later in the week.July 31, 2017 at 00:45 #1312002Yeah, so close Grass, but he lost to a horse, who as you say, was just off the back of a hard race last week, so no shame in that. Gentleman Jon will win soon, and I won’t miss him.
I’ll be betting every day this week, but I’ll only be dipping my toe in the water at Galway tomorrow. Just tidying up my selections, and I’ll stick them up on my thread tomorrow.
August 5, 2017 at 15:28 #1313023Just a couple of little token E/Ws on Mysloegin at 25s and Kilbarry Way at 33s in the last at Galway today. I haven’t studied the race but it’s more just to have something on today.
August 5, 2017 at 23:55 #1313053Nice each way at 33’s in the last Grass
August 6, 2017 at 08:13 #1313063Thanks VtC she’s related to some good horses. Wouldn’t have beaten the winner but lots to like- held her own in the thick of it to start, got stuck behind a wall of horses and found a way round and through to run on for 2nd. Not bad for first time out.
If I’d looked at Mysloegin more closely I’d have realised she’s a hold up horse and therefore less suited to the track with a big field. Still ran with some credit and worth watching.August 17, 2017 at 19:15 #1314171Get Smart is a nice price at 9-1 for the 1920 at Tramore so I had a wee go. Liked the look of him last couple of times.
August 17, 2017 at 19:26 #1314173Back to the drawing board…
August 18, 2017 at 10:12 #1314217No luck Grass
Only had a few bets here and there since Galway & Goodwood, and might sit another Saturday out tomorrow as well. I might follow you in though and bet one at Tramore tonight. Maudlin Magdalen with 4 places at least 12’s on offer is tempting.
August 19, 2017 at 21:56 #1314510I’ve backed a couple of Gordon Elliot’s at Tramore tomorrow: Presenting Julio who I like and is full brother to Nicky Henderson’s Gold Present is 9/2 and Theatre Wine at 16s (yes she may take my money down with her again…reversed her with Lilywhite Gesture too.).
