Am I the only one who gets the song from Grease in their head when they see this thread title?

Summer jumping, had me a blast
Summer jumping, the going’s too fast
I backed a horse, hated the ground
    It pulled up, looking unsound
Summer jumps give me goosebumps but they ruin my summer nights

Hmm. Sandymount Duke did rally well to win by a head giving away a stone to Net D’Ecosse, but the reason he had to rally was losing his lead 2 out by jumping a bit left again. He jumps very nicely bowling along in front meeting everything beautifully, but I wonder if he would stay straight and get away from his fences quickly in a rough race with stiff competition for the lead.
He could have easily lost today if the jockey of the 2nd hadn’t been unbalanced on the run in (tack issue? He came off a couple of strides after the post).
Devil’s Bride did well enough and wasn’t far away.

Theatre Wine fell after getting a bit long and really wrong, she had no chance. She had managed to put in a few short ones to correct herself before that. Jockey seemed to be letting her work strides out for herself; I suppose they do have to learn. She got up quickly so hope none the worse.

Rashaan and Triolet won their races well but the pace and competition didn’t look overly hot…perhaps that’s just cos I’ve been watching Royal Ascot all day ;-)

Laoch Liam won the bumper smartly- one for the notebook.

    lol Gladiateur

Grass, I was happy enough with Sandymount tonight, though his jumping, as you say, could be slicker. Was very happy with his attitude though, and don’t think he’d be out of place in Graded Company, and I’d really like to see him in The JNwines at Down Royal. Happy with Devils Bride as well, and hope he doesn’t get hit with a rise for that run tonight. Still got Galway in mind for him………..and Sandymount of course.

Another one from the list running tomorrow, and hoping Shanpallas has indeed retained all his ability.

I think Net D’Ecosse will be the one hit with a big rise and the poor bugger doesn’t even have a win to show for it.

Definitely Grass, horse had escaped my attention up to now, but that was a nice run last night.

Nice comeback yesterday from him, and though just out of the places, it looked very much like a prep run to me, and I’m very hopeful now for Galway.

Yes off we go, I did think that it didn’t quite fit here but didn’t know where to put it thanks.

Well, Peace and Co won on chase debut OK. The commentator was rather taken with him anyhow. He seemed to jump OK but those big hedges in the wings at Hexham make it hard to see! He carries his head a little high for a chaser which looks a bit awkward but Daryl Jacob gave him a quiet ride and he looked happy over fences.

Kilbeggan looks the most interesting jumps card tomorrow. Might back Dicosimo in the hope that he can tuck in behind something else in a slightly bigger field on good ground.

Nice card at Kilbeggan tomorrow, and should be one or two clues for Galway and beyond.

Surprised at the price you can get for Discosimo, very generous looking, and that surely can’t last for you. If I do decide to have a bet though it will be on Alamein. Been keeping one eye on him since his early days, he’s been a bit of a slow burner, and I always had staying chases in mind for him (not a particularly bold call for a Giggs horse). Very happy with the style of his win last year, and has been highly tried since. I was hoping he wouldn’t be out this summer, as had him earmarked as horse to follow this winter, but at 7’s, I’d be mad not to consider him.

Trying to be strict with my betting at this stage, and this meeting looks perfect for viewing purposes tomorrow, but if I do decide to play, I might add Baily Moon, who reverts to a Novice Hurdle in one of the earlier races, fresh from a win over fences last time.

Well neither of our horses in the novice chase covered themselves in glory, but nor were they knocked about when beaten. I was wrong about the ground, and about Dicosimo tucking in- he took off like a scalded cat.

At least they both jumped well. Looking at Alamein‘s breeding, do you think they’ll send him over 3 miles soon?

The winner did it well though I suppose getting a chunk of weight on soft helps. Runner up was was 40/1. I saw him on sportinglife’s daily selections, looked at his form and thought “Pah!”. More fool me.

Your Baily Moon ran well enough if a bit careful over his hurdles. He’s a strong lump of a horse. Are the hurdles to keep him fit and ticking over for a chasing target I wonder.

I think that’s the most important thing Grass, neither mucked about with once beaten, and almost certainly worth another chance the pair of them. Yeah, definitely have 3 miles in mind for Alamein, and haven’t given up on him at all.

I followed Baily Green closely a few years back, and still can’t believe he didn’t beat Simonsig in The Arkle, he should have won it no probs, but I don’t think Casey ever truely believed he was on the better horse. There’s been a few less impressive “Bailys” over the years, but I did have a soft spot of the ill-fated Baily Cloud, and quite like this Baily Moon as well. Very happy with his run tonight, and I think you’re spot on, he’s got a good chance of another chase in the next month or so, and yeah, what a big lump haha.

Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary tonight, and a chance for me to see one of my favourite horses in training, Ivan Grozny. He ran away with this last year, on what I was hoping was a trip to the top. Sadly it didn’t happen, and his season fizzled out, but there’s little doubt in my mind he wasn’t right, and this was theory was given some credence when WPM pulled him from The Northumberland Plate, as he wasn’t 100%. He’s short enough for this, and not really my kind of price. If fit enough, he should easily land this, as competitive as it is, and I haven’t totally written him off for the proper big prizes. His stroll at Aintree is still fresh in the mind, and he ran with more promise in The Punchestown Champion Hurdle, than his finishing position suggests, especially with a marked change in tactics for him. I just have the slight doubt that he will be ready for this, if he did have a setback, and could he be one for The Galway Hurdle. He’d have enough weight, but at his best, he’d be a serious player.

Nice enough race without the added attraction of one of my faves, and the likes of Rashaan, the very interesting, and nicely priced Moonday Sun, and last years Galway Plate winner Clondaw Warrior.

Talking of Galway, there’s a JP runner, way down the betting in The Grimes who is very much of interest with that festival in mind. Minella Foru is a horse I have a lot of time for, and he’s obviously had issues keeping sound. He gave me a smashing payday in The 2015 Paddy Power, but wasn’t seen until January this year, when making a low key return over hurdles behind Sutton Place (but in front of Ivan Grozny) at Naas. We didn’t get a chance to see where he’s at in The Irish National, as he fell early, but the fact that he took that race in, and also the fact that he’s been given another spin over timber at 2 miles, suggests a definite plan for him. He could, considering his current chase mark be a very very live one for The Galway Plate. I wouldn’t be the slightest bit concerned about the shorter trip in The Plate, as he’s very versatile tripwise, and he just adds to the interest in this race for me. He’s a very big price here tonight, 33’s, but I really do have a strong feeling that this is a stepping stone to something else, and I do think it will be The Plate.

You were right to give IG the swerve tonight then VTC. Some nice performances on show this week including Fagan that you noted, and also Beat That– hope he didn’t get too shaken up by that purler of a fall.

I liked the look of Braqueur D’Or both this week and LTO. More to come from him.

I see that Peregrine Run is novice chasing at Wexford tomorrow along with our two damp squibs from last time…being stubborn, I’ve put Dicosimo in a rev f/c with PR :-) And if the mood takes me, I might just pile your Alamein into a little tricast with them :-) :-)

Dunno who to side with in the 3m beginner’s chase so I’ll probably just watch, but maybe interesting.

Good luck if you’re reinvesting any of the loot from your Epsom winner this weekend VTC, and also to any forlorn jumps fans passing through here…have a good weekend.

Cheers Grass, cannot complain with how the week has went, and it looks likely I’ll reinvest tonights Epsom winnings on the Friday, as well as the Saturday.

I haven’t looked ahead to the weekend races, bar a few of the Sandown races which had their own thread, but Friday has a few eyecatchers, and not surprisingly it’s that Beginners Chase which catches the eye. Peregrine surely goes close in that race, but I don’t know, 20-1 Alamein, I just might have to  As for that 3 miler, I could almost take a chance on Billy Flight, but it’s another outsider on Go It Alone who really appeals. I thought he looked fairly promising, and I think the market has him too high at 25’s, and I’m having a go.

Yeah, Ivan was just too short tonight, though I did stick him in a perm. There was always that suspicion that having clearly had problems, he wouldn’t be 100%. I’d expect him to beat Plinth all day long now if in fit and well (though to be fair not the first time Plinth has beat him), and as I mentioned, I just can’t write him off for The Galway Hurdle. I thought he just looked as if he emptied too quickly at the end, and he is better than that. Be interesting to see where he goes.

Of the others, well Minella Foru was disappointing. Although he had no realistic chance, I still expected more, and I’m not convinced he’s really recovered from his setback, and he hardly advertised his claims for The Plate.

More frustrating was Caolaneoin. As promised, I topped up at the 20’s, and I was counting my winnings a couple of furlongs out, as nothing was going better. Not entirely sure if he went amiss, or he clipped heels with another, but he stopped almost to a standstill. If he’s none the worse for that, then he looks worthy of another chance, he really was going very well.

Rev f/c worked out so I’ve reinvested in your Go It Alone E/W in 3m beginners chase as still a nice price at 20-1.
