Its hard to imagine Moore feeling great about G1s going to other jockeys that he could have ridden and especially if he is in a like it or lump it situation and doesnt have any choice about where he rides.
But it looks as though he will only have to sit and suffer for a couple of seasons until Donnaca’s career is thwarted by weight struggles and that might be well worth the struggle because his patience will be rewarded by business as usual and a steady flow of G1s for the forseeable future.
Can’t see anything currently worth jumping ship for.
October 1, 2018 at 14:05 #1376137Your an absolute mile off if you think moore is not on all the #1 rides. Like i said in my previous post, why would he be rushed back from america on sat night for a book of #1 rides at naas on sunday if the presumed #1 donnacha was 50 yards away from them
Because moore is the #1 retained rider….
Just pointless speculation at present. If mendelssohn was not being campaigned for the BC moore would have ridden all of donnachas group 1/classic wins this year (bar latrobe obv) and this wouldnt even be a discussion.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 1, 2018 at 17:19 #1376149Just a small point Ham but do you think he would have ridden Saxon Warrior in the Guineas?
And another small point Mr Grumpy has rode some shockers this season IMO
October 2, 2018 at 10:00 #1376167He absolutely would have if he wasnt over on mendelssohn raymo, hes ridden every #1 string at every meeting apart from when on mendelssohn or any other foreign raid, at the time of the kentucky derby it was widely publicized that he had chosen to go over there because he always wanted/wants to win it as does obrien (obrien wasnt at newmarket for the guineas either), id go as far as saying if either could choose to win the kentucky derby or the breeders cup classic and not have a guineas winner for a few seasons it would be a no brainer for both (IMO)
If donnacha was the #1 or regarded as the #1 they would just buy ryan out of his retainer and use donnacha, money is no object to coolmore/ballydoyle.
As good as donnacha is, hes not as good as moore yet and its likely he wont get the chance to be, seamie gave up the 2nd string rides this year, you would assume it was so donnacha could be champion jockey before he retires at the end of the season.
October 2, 2018 at 20:14 #1376216Donnacha will be riding next season according to the post and won’t be retiring just yet.
Also says they will take it year by year regard him riding.Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 5, 2018 at 12:24 #1376411Moore is the number one retained jockey yes Ham.
2018 major group 1 winners.
Donnacha…. Irish Derby, Newmarket 2000, Epsom Oaks, Cheveley Park, Middle Park.
Ryan… Belmont Oaks, Irish Ledger, English Ledger, Diamond Jubilee.
Yes Ryan is still getting his G1 winners. But the bosses son has a habit of getting onto the right ones, at the right time. This fact will not be lost on the very shrewd Moore. Being the number one, means you should be winning the major races for the stable. Yes sometimes he will be on the wrong one, but that’s not the case here. Mendelssohn is yet to win a G1. On Saturday Moore missed two G1 winners and a G2. Whilst Mendelssohn took in an extra race to his schedule, because he ‘looked’ so well, and got beat again. That dream is over. If you do not think that Ryan had a good think about that on his flight back from the US, those missed G1 winners, I’d say you’re wrong. Who rides Ten Sovereigns next? Does Donnacha keep the ride? Will another horse need Moore stateside?
I’d say he’s on his way in the not to distant future still.
October 11, 2018 at 18:34 #1376996Do we think it might suck AGAIN to be Mr Grumpy this weekend??
October 11, 2018 at 22:20 #1377012Nausered, moore will be on any #1 choice in thenyard wether it be ten sovereigns or zabriskie…. hes not here tomorrownor saturday because hes riding in the everest….. isnt it obvious by now lol
And the dream with mendelssohn isnt over yet, worst classic for a while…
October 12, 2018 at 10:07 #1377050Slotholder Tom Magnier from Coolmore Stud, who also own US Navy Flag, said: “Ryan Moore is retained by Coolmore as our No.1 jockey and he has the pick of the races he wants to attend.
“There is the Dewhurst, one of the biggest races in the UK, but he is coming down for the Everest and is very excited about it.
“That says something when the top jockey in the world wants to be here.”
October 12, 2018 at 10:13 #1377051Exactly Kev- the last line says it all.
Moore has an opportunity given by Coolmore to ride in worldwide races, not other jockey gets this chance from the UK. Obviously the Dewhurst etc are big races, but these are once in a life time opportunities, he won’t get them forever, but he will be supported by UK jockeys plenty in the big races with or without Coolmore.
Take the opportunities while you get them.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 12, 2018 at 11:34 #1377057Ryan has the choice and he knows there will be plenty more group one winners from ballydoyle. Anthony van dyck looks like the idea of the Derby winner to me and ten sovereigns looks exceptional. He has won most top races but he’d love to win the breeders cup or the Everest. Looks like the grounds going against us navy flag but you can’t plan that.Donnacha to me is as good as any jockey around and it’s not Aidens fault that his son is arguably the best jockey at ballydoyle. Donnacha will have one more season possibly two in the saddle and Aiden is like any other dad who loves seeing his lad winning big races. I’m sure if he wasn’t up to it the lads would soon intervene. Let’s just enjoy Donnacha while he’s still riding.
October 15, 2018 at 13:19 #1377430Oh I agree Mickey, Donnacha is a top class jockey, this was never about that. It’s about Ryan Moore’s mindset on the matter. Whatever anyone says about international rides, I doubt Ryan is to happy with Donnacha stealing all of the lime light in the big UK races. Ryan comes across as quite a ‘deep’ character. He is lauded as the best jockey in the world, but like you say, public perception (and yours) is being turned a bit, and he will know that… He may not even be the best jockey in Ballydoyle anymore.
For a deep thinking character, I’d say that’s going to play on his mind a bit. Not a lot going right for Ryan right now IMO.
October 15, 2018 at 15:26 #1377445Ham, everything you say is correct. But, and it’s a big but… Sportsman at the top of their game, historically tend to deal quite badly with situations like this one. I don’t think Ryan is anywhere near as good as he was three or four years ago. I’m not even sure why that is. I hope his luck changes, but it’s certainly not great right now.
October 26, 2018 at 22:40 #1378707Another G1 weekend. Ryan on a 12f 33-1 no hoper out in Aus, with absolutely zero chance against Winx at 10f on a greyhound track. Donnacha on the 11-8 Ballydoyle hotpot, and probable ‘next big thing’ at Doncaster. It’s a bit of a common theme right now.
October 27, 2018 at 19:01 #1378869He was out there to be on us navy flag initially in a group 1 worth 1 million lol im not actually very “pro ryan moore” hes an exceptional jockey so wether he was coolmores #1 or not in the future doesnt bother me, but you seem to have an issue with him being the #1 because you keep making incorrect conspiracy theories, if ryan “wanted” to be in doncaster today, ryan would have been in doncater today…. the same reason theyv rushed him back “again” from australia this morning to france tomorrow for two G1 rides on the two coolmore #1 hopes while donnacha plays second fiddle
Why would this “theme” mean anything when there literally wiping it out the day after every time by spending fortunes to get moore back and forth in time….
November 3, 2018 at 14:22 #1379587I have no problem with him at all Ham, if anything I feel a bit sorry for him! IMO, he’s been ‘mugged’ off a bit this year. He’s definitely been ‘got out of the way’ at certain points this year to allow Donnacah to shine in my opinion. Unquestionable when he is around, he is number one. But he’s also been missing a hell of a lot when the big guns have run in England,in the big races, and won. That’s not me having a problem with him, that’s me seeing a future problem in his relationship with his trainer, maybe.
Maybe he will win the Classic tonight. Maybe he will be at Ballydoyle for years. I don’t believe either though being honest Ham.
