November 6, 2008 at 14:06 #188308Give it a rest FFs………..I am sick to death of would be knowitalls having a go……is it because I am so successful that you are acting like a bunch of babies because you aint getting any?
within a couple of weeks I have had a great 7/2 double up which I advised on here that everyone should get stuck in………I had the most successful punt of my life when I had bundles on Zarkava at 7/1 when you lot were having digs at me saying she wasn’t good enough…….then came the big one in the states…..what did I bet? Raven’s Pass..I’m very sorry I am successful at punting and it bugs you…..but I honestly don’t care what you think.
This forum is for every kind of discussion as long as it is about racing…….betting always has and always will be the number one subject.
About 80% of punters get into racing because they want to win money.they are called gamblers. Maybe you’ve heard of them.
So grow up and leave Mr Wilson alone he has every right to start this thread but you have no right to start slagging me or any other member.
No, it’s because you are a knob head that comes out with posts like that.
November 6, 2008 at 14:49 #188319Fists, give it a rest. Kauto was unbeatable prior to the GC and lost – Nobody laid into you too hard about that so get down off your rocking horse.
Newmill – 33/1 Champion Chase
Thewayyouare – 40’s DerbyNovember 6, 2008 at 15:09 #188325Best was Authorized in 2007 derby at 10s and 12s.
Worst was Galatee in the 2006 Oaks, was a huge fan of hers and backed her at about 11am after a really upbeat report from bolger, she got pulled out at about 4 pm on the same day.

I would like to state that my ante post record sucks.
Badly.
I could list tens of horses who I have backed ante post who have never even made the race…..
However – I did have a nice touch when doing a Haafd and Attraction double for the Guineas a few years back.
I had taken the 16’s on Haafd sigle as well and was incrediably chuffed with he £400 pick up on the Saturday. However I was so nervous about Attraction on the Sunday that I couldn’t sleep and dreamt she lost and that the double was down.
Such a relief when i woke up and realised it was still on.
Roared her home with my family – who i had made both of my parents give me money to back ante post for them – as for some reason I was positive she would do it.
Great feeling to get an ante post double the year before the event.
To be honest, the money, though awesome does not compare to the feeling of success of picking the double and more importantly, I had so much time for Attraction that I was chuffed that the horse was no regarded as a classic winner.
that being said, I never backed Haafd on Champions Day when we won at double figures back at newmarket (where I think he was unbeaten?). my word, did I take some stick for that after winning all that money in the double. I was gutted yet pleased for the horse as people had questioned its ability and it is obvious that he just did not act on other courses the way he did at Newmarket. i think B.Hills said he hated to travel.
November 6, 2008 at 18:15 #188351I no longer bet ante post, but when I did dabble back in the day, the ones I remember most fondly are – Aldaniti (GN) 20/1, Musical Bliss (1,000 gns) 14/1, Detroit (Arc) 10/1.
Btw, nothing whatsoever wrong with the thread. Jeez.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
November 6, 2008 at 18:28 #188356None of my antepost bets ever seem to come good:
Examples include
Kauto Star @ 10/1 for the Champion Chase 2006 where he fell (he won 9 of his next 10 starts too)
Exotic Dancer (8/1) & Beef Or Salmon (20/1) – each-way antepost double last Christmas – both paying third place – had a hefty sum on this (for me) cos the each-way portion was a great price (6/1 for the place double) – Beef or Salmon finished 4th (of 6 runners)
My Petra @ 14/1 for the Grand Annual 2008 – beaten into 2nd by Tiger Cry with Davy Russell on board – to add insult to injury I had backed Russell to be top jock at the Festival and the only 2 races he won were when my selection was 2nd!
Monets Garden (each way) @ 20/1 for the Order of Merit 2007/08 – Nicky Richards must have been the only person who thought the horse should have been kept away from 20f races.
November 6, 2008 at 18:46 #188360FoF,
Re Gembridge Jupiter ~ I reckon you’re wrong about Cloudwalker. Right trainer and right colour, but the horse GJ came 2nd to was Rage Glen imo. Could I be right?
November 6, 2008 at 20:28 #188388Calm down lads.
May be this is asking for aftertiming but does it matter just this once?
I found out this year my best ante-post bet was the same as Dave Nevisons.
Saw Rooster Booster (on TV) win the Greatwood Hurdle under a big weight. Thought that must have about a 20% 4/1 chance of winning the Champion now. Waited by the phone, most bookies were around 8/1, picked up the phone to call. But then they said Stan James were 12/1. had my usual amount on at 12’s. Sat there thinking, this much value does not come along very often. So backed it again so as to win four figures.
A few days later my Timeform Perspective came, saying "the performance was good enough to win three of the last four Champion hurdles". By then the best price was 8/1, so backed it again to win another four figure sum.
Suppose I was lucky his temperament held for that season, but 12/1 was enormous. My worst was when seeing what the Perspective said about Six Perfections after she won a two year old race in France. Backed it to win four figures in the 1000 Guineas at 16/1. Not a certain runner at the time but worth a chance. Got in to all sorts of problems on the rail at Newmarket having to come around almost the whole field. Could not catch Russian Rhythem. At the end of the season the French filly had a higher Timeform rating than the Stoute horse.
As an eighteen year old I backed Oh So Sharp £50 at 5/2 for the 1000 G. Won by a short head with a short head between the second and third. Just got up.
And then with winnings had £25 each way at 16/1 Slip Anchor for the Derby, just before he ran in the Lingfield trial. Never in any danger, 9/4 fav on the day and won by 12 lengths (I think).
In 85 I put more money in to the building society than I earnt in the year.

Yeah but if Kieren Fallon had been trying to win, Stoute’s horse would have won by the length of the track.
November 6, 2008 at 21:02 #188396Best: Probably Punjabi at 60 to place in the Champion Hurdle ( backed him the day before Totesport Trophy)
Worst: Far too many to mention.
November 6, 2008 at 21:27 #188404Two best – Katchits Triumph & Attractions 1000G
Worst – The rest
November 6, 2008 at 21:30 #188405I’ve never had a succesful AP bet, though in my defence I can’t have had more than around 20
Last one was in 1995: far too much than I could afford to lose on Alhaarth for the Derby @25/1 following his win in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood
Since then it’s been ‘day of race’ or ‘final decs’ only
November 6, 2008 at 22:13 #188413Dancing Brave is my favourite flat horse by a country mile and his portrait has pride of place over my mantlepeice. He beat Bering, a quality racehorse in his own right, in the Arc and Berings jockey said he didn’t beleive a horse run as fast as Eddery’s mount as he flew past. As to the twice you saw him as a juvenile, I heard his trainer, Guy Harwood, when watching the race at Headquarters, didn’t believe it was his charge such was the ease of his win. I take this with large pinch of salt but perhaps Prince Khaled had two in the race.

P.S. Hilarious rant by Fist.
Fist – do you not think it’s a bit undignified to boast about your financial successes? You’ll be telling us all how much you earn next. We only have your word for the success or otherwise of your punting in any case….
What are you babbling about? I was shouting Zarkava for weeks on here to cries of "Not Good Enough" :"Never met the Colts" "Fillies don’t win races" and you think I never bet her
I will tell you this much and I challenge anyone on here to show me differently.
I have never at anytime verbally attacked anyone on here without being provoked.
its amazing how you guys jump on people who join here and get stuck into new members if they say they had a bet. But should someone attack a fellow member with ignorant verbal insults what do you? Join in!!!! To me it says says bundles about a persons charachter and lack of manners.
Hillarious Rant? you’re a comedian mate and if that’s what you call repecting fellow members it speaks volumes about what kind of prat you are.
There is nothing or no one forces you to read another member’s post or reply to them but if you do I suggest you and your good buddy DJ find some manners before posting. Unbelievable ignorance from both of you.
November 7, 2008 at 06:36 #188512It’s the small pockets of resistance in the otherwise well occupied racing forum that are the ‘problem’
It makes for great reading though
