Well done Simon Holt for not getting to over-excited in the closing stages. As already mentioned this is real commentating class.
Poor horse, poor connections. He really didn’t deserve this end, like no other horse does.
Rest in Peace Starchitect!December 16, 2017 at 14:06 #1332369100% Simon Holt very classy there

December 16, 2017 at 14:09 #1332372What a good, consistent horse :(
RIP StarchitechtDecember 16, 2017 at 14:19 #1332379Brave boy; you went out on your sword. Condolences to connections; was there ever such a split second change from jubilation to despair? RIP
December 16, 2017 at 15:24 #1332402Memories of Valiramix there.
Credit to the cameraman too.
RIP
December 16, 2017 at 15:58 #1332417He looked fantastic today, and then complete tragedy. Such a sad day.
December 16, 2017 at 16:50 #1332428RIP Starchitect
You were so loved and will always be remembered.
Thoughts are with those that loved and cared for you.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 16, 2017 at 18:28 #1332480One of the most cruel blows ever. Condolences to connections. RIP Starchitect.
December 16, 2017 at 19:43 #1332507Horse appeared to be at the peak of his powers and making a far better chaser than I would have expected.
Well done to winning jockey Ryan Day for getting the tone just right in the interview seconds after he’d won.December 16, 2017 at 20:10 #1332514Awful to see that. One of the worst I’ve seen.
Well done Hoiles on ITV for his massively toned down commentary in the final furlong. And well done the cameraman who saw it before many would’ve.
RIP Starchitect
December 16, 2017 at 23:08 #1332553I thought the incident was an excellent piece of camera work. He managed to avoid letting us see the horse while being able to see the new leaders. Very good work. RIP Starchitect
December 18, 2017 at 16:37 #1332821Well, maybe things don’t just happen without plausible explanation.
Here is what Paul Rooney had to say:Rooney, who watched the race on television, felt the area where Starchitect broke down – an intersection of Cheltenham’s old and new courses – was softer and more churned up than the rest of the track the six-year-old had been running on.
“Jason went to the area and investigated straight afterwards and it’s where the track goes off to the cross-country course, so the ground was churned and softer there,” he said.
“If he’d been a few yards further out he probably would have avoided it. I think the view is it’s unfortunate. He was running on good to soft ground and then suddenly it went really soft and he slipped.”
December 23, 2017 at 23:56 #1333765I don’t believe Starchitect slipped up, he didn’t even take a so called false step, the cannon bone simply shattered, still a horrible thing to see. He did look like a champion that day, such a great shame.
