I am not wishing to open a can of worms with this “Title” because I am sure we are all aware of it being a subject most who have been around places such as this divides opinion as no other I can think of.

Should any wish to comment what I am interested in is how you bet and why. Does anyone stick to a plan and what that plan is and perhaps most of all does it work.

My own MO, should I have one is perhaps that of being too flexible and perhaps reacting too quickly to the change(s) as I see it.

Now and again, when things are going well (not too often these days) I use level stakes from a bank of approx. £500 spread across most of the BOG offices.

I will start at £1.00 win only and when results show me to be in profit regarding any given system I am happy to increase to £2 or play for a set return, say £5.00.

When, as so often is the way that results do not show the upward trend I will either fall back to my original £1 win only stake or go to “old faithful” being each way. Then when things go really bad the sytem gets dumped.

Although I am aware of the many failings surrounding such ways I find it hard to change my ways, I have no stomach for losing runs and hate seeing profits dribble back to those from who I have taken them.

During desperate times I find myself taking refuge in Safety First ideas and am currently in such a period.

The profits have slowly ebbed back to the layers and as a way of slowing the process I am trying to content myself with small but regular profit via TOP THREE finishers.

I continue with my small £1 stake (please understand that £1 to myself remains a worthy stake, after all my first wage back in the 1950’s was less than £2 p.w. for 45 hours), as said I continue with my £1 stake and look for odds against where possible for a 3 place finish.
    Examples for today: –
    Dunraven Storm 5.35 Kempton @ 1/1
    Ravenhoe 2.55 Beverley @ 11/8
    All You 4.40 Beverley @ 5/4
    Percyvivace 5.50 Beverley @ 4/6
    Kublai 4.25 Kempton @ 6/5

I am always ineterested to know how others get the maximum pleasure from this magnifenct sport we all enjoy and as I, make it such a fantastic hobby and if I can learn from others, maybe I can even make it profitable.

(It is hard to believe when I started work over half a century ago I was earning less than a shilling (5p) an hour out of which there was train fares to be paid, ah! the time of steam engines and house keeping to be paid as well, to a wonderful mother who roused me with a cup of tea at 5.30 am every morning during my 6 year apprenticeship).

I work very similar to you, but use 5% of my bank at the start of each day. I also will bin a system after a losing run of double figures.

With a change of fortune I have now dropped betting for a first 3 finish and graduated back to “old faithful” of each way at minimum stakes and all prices better than odds on.

A fortune will never be made but I will never go broke.

I have recently been trying out a method rather than a system of backing fairly short priced favourites and using a retrieval staking plan, which I am told is the fastest way to the poor house, but it works for me.
