True Mounty, but if you watch the race again you’ll see that Red Rocks was probably fortunate to have finished in front of Sixties Icon.
Red Rocks is certainly one to invest in each way but I can’t see him beating Sixties Icon on this occasion all being well.
The forecast may be a better betting option?
September 5, 2006 at 10:08 #76325Surely Red Rocks or Jadalee to be placed are much better bets then Sixties icon to win?
I’m not sure of Red Rocks stamina insofar as the champion stakes was being considered, and perhaps he was outstayed by Youmzain.
Also, Ask and the AOB horses don’t even compare to group 3 level on what they have achieved thus far, or even by taking into account any potential showed??
September 5, 2006 at 13:23 #76326I’d like to see thr riding arrangements for O’Brien’s horses but I quite like Mountain… Only beaten a length by Sixties Icon in the Derby and I think he’ll like the flat track and the extra distance.. E/W I think he’s got a good shout.. Although they do seem to favour tusculum
September 5, 2006 at 20:52 #76327Hughes has got off Championship Point to ride Red Rocks which is understandable to get on the second fav.. Championship Point put up a good performance in the Predominate but susequently disappointed.
Whether Red Rocks was outstayed in the Voltigeur or caught napping ( Dettori also said he went too soon) is a matter of conjecture
September 6, 2006 at 08:07 #76328Channon is saying he thinks Hughes has made a mistake… He’s really quite bullish about the colts chances..
September 6, 2006 at 14:39 #76329Yes and I see the Championship points odds have gone down a bit. Of course Channon was also that optomistic before his last race and didnt want Youzmain to be taking him on. Channon is that kind of chap really
:cheesy:

August 6, 2008 at 18:01 #8579Thought I’d start a thread today as Mr Seagull is due to preview the race in tomorrow’s Post. Looking through the lists the best value I can see at the moment is Coral’s 16/1 about Doctor Fremantle. He won the Chester Vase, a good Leger guide, like a real stayer then ran too free in the Derby but finished an honourable 4th. He wasn’t helped by being slowly away behind Montmartre in his last run but stayed on well. What price this to be TS’ headline tip tomorrow?
As I posted here after the Irish Oaks, I followed DJ in for 33/1 Moonstone, but couldn’t recommend her at the current 16/1 given that she’s not sure to turn up. If we knew which of the Ballydoyle battalions would run we’d be closer to the winner but I prefer to hold fire until running plans for O’Brien become known- I doubt they know themselves at this stage which of those quoted will turn up at Town Moor.August 6, 2008 at 19:48 #176312Agree 100% on Doctopr Freemantle, think he’s got a really great chance as he’s the classiest likely runner/stayer IMO. I also like Alessandro Volta 14-1 and Washington Irving 20-1 aswell, but preference would probably be for the latter as it’s hard to say if AOB will keep AV at 1m4f.
Washington Irving would look the most certain of AOBs to run as he has always looked to me like he wants further than 1m4f and if a decent field turns up for the leger and there is plenty of pace I’d fancy him to at least be placed. The way AOB is turning out winners at the minute it will take a good one to beat whatever he puts out for the leger because he looks to have a few serious contenders once again.
I think Dr Freemantle and Washington Irving look very interesting at this point in time and both are definitely over priced.
August 6, 2008 at 19:50 #176313I am a big fan of Look Here. She was impressive in the Oaks and her time there was first-class. She runs like she’ll be suited by the test of stamina the Leger represents. Moonstone would certainly be a danger if she ran given that 12f looked like her minimum trip last time and of the colts I like Patkai best.
August 6, 2008 at 19:59 #176314Apparantly they have confirmed this is Frozen Fire’s target but with race sometime away who knows. His win in the Irsh Derby was a very good effort and he looked like this trip would suit him.
I can’t see Alessandro Volta figuring and would fancy Doc Frremantle before him despite the betting saying different.
Queens Vase winner Patkai will certainly not be wanting for stamina which is a such big adavantageand probably deserves to be favourite. He would want a very strong pace but I think Frozen Fire will want one too.
Something of O’Briens is likely to make sure they have it.
It doesn’t have a classic look about it and apart from Look Here I casn’t fancy anything else.
This could be a year for the fillies and they do tend to imptove dramatically at this time of the year.
At decent odds I would fancy her being good value as Ginge would say.
Bit too iffy a race for me to be betting AP though
August 6, 2008 at 20:16 #176317One of my favourite Leger stats is that anything that has proven its stamina by running over the distance or further is almost certain to lose- the Queen’s Vase winner has an awful record.
August 6, 2008 at 20:24 #176319Look Here for me…
Given a decent pace she looks to have bags of stamina.
August 6, 2008 at 20:58 #176321I asked Mr. Beckett about Look Here when I saw him at Chepstow yesterday. She runs next in the Yorkshire Oaks and dependent on that run, will probably go for the Leger. He didn’t think the Leger trip would pose any problem.

August 7, 2008 at 09:58 #176345I’ve been a Doctor Fremantle fan ever since the Chester Vase, and I don’t think it takes much figuring out to say he’ll get 14f if he settles. I’m probably being a bit greedy in holding off as 16s is more than fair, but he’ll almost certainly be getting my money as well.
August 7, 2008 at 11:05 #176350I see AOB only has a third of the entries.

Stoute has a strong hand but he has never won it.
Look Here, Frozen Fire, Dr Freemantle and Tartan Bearer lok the pick but will know a lot more after York.
August 7, 2008 at 13:52 #176367Tartan Bearer – returns first-up in the Champion Stakes I read?
