    Ginger

Notable Speech had 3 prep runs before the Guineas in a season where almost every horse has improved a mile for a run.
He’s not in the same league as the likes of Rosallion, Henry Longfellow and City Of Troy.

Notable Speech probably has run below his best but it would have taken a big effort to win from where he was positioned. Not convinced it was Buick’s finest hour, even if the horse did run flat.

Henry Longfellow has run a good race. Okay he had the box position but the going was slightly against him.
Sussex could be a cracker. Can’t see past the 3 y/o’s personally

Well done Nathan and all other winners.
    You might be right, Nathan.

Timeform have Rosallion improving to a provisional 123.
Unless they add pounds for coming from behind Henry in a slowish run race – which is possible – that still puts him 2 lbs below Notable Speech (unless they drop his rating, which I’d have thought was unlikely with the horse he beat winning here).

Rosallion was so brave for my ex-local stable.
Settled better than he did in the Irish Guineas.

“You’re a fool if you can’t see that Notable Speech has run well below his best there. ”

While it is true to say he has run below his best today, it may also be that he isn’t up to the level of the winner and perhaps the second. Not proven…but time will tell.

I don’t think anyone on this thread is a fool.
Although I do have splinters in my backside from fence sitting.

    I agree Nathan. I think the 3yo’s will dominate 1m – 1m2f this season.

I had Henry Longfellow at 30s for the Eclipse and am now gutted they switched City of Troy to it.

Rosallion reminds me of Canford Cliffs with that turn of foot and think he’s probably an out and out miler. Being out of Blue Point, it’s highly unlikely he’d get any further.

If its softish in the Sussex Henry has to be the bet. Interesting does aidan stay at a mile. Notable speech maybe didn’t act on the going. Winner loved the ground.

    I wondered that Mickey.
The horse looked like he want to cock his head a few times

William Buick felt 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech ran nowhere near his Newmarket form when trailing in seventh of the eight runners in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Notable Speech was settled in rear but failed to quicken when attempting to make his move on the outside at the two-furlong pole.
Buick said: “That was disappointing. That’s obviously not the horse we know from Newmarket. He relaxed nicely and I thought everything was going how I expected it to. Take nothing away from the winner, he’s danced every dance, but Notable Speech has not run anywhere near what he can do.”
Asked if the ground was a bit lively, Buick said: “It is but we didn’t have that down as a concern beforehand.”

GM23 – If Rosallion can grow into a beast of a 4 year old like Canford Cliffs did we will be in for a treat

    Nathan,

Just looking back, Canford was beaten at Newmarket also before going on to win the Irish Guineas, St James Palace and Sussex back to back. Hannon has followed this pretty much to the letter with Rosallion.

Canford Cliffs became a man in his Irish Guineas as he learnt how to settle
Rosallion is pretty calm and relax but looks of the edge of taking off when it’s time to push the button.

Notable Speech is 8/1 for the Sussex last time I looked. Those that think he is better than Rosallion should be lumping on that. Time form have him better and Ginger has him quicker than Rosallion

I’ll pass on that but good luck

I’d take 8/1 day of race, Nathan. But the price offered is as much about likelihood of taking part. They’ll probably find something wrong with Notable Speech in the interim. I would not be in any hurry to back him for a race that’s only next month.

    You have your wish Nathan.
Timeform have upped that innitial 123 form rating they gave for the St James’s, to 124+ and added a couple of pounds for being at a positional disadvantage with the second.

So 126, now 1 lb ahead of Notable Speech.

“Been saying Notable Speech was a hype horse and not in the league of the other 2 which has been proven today”.

    LOL
How is that “proven”, GM?

Please tell me how a horse that everyone else can see has run well below his best, has “proven” your theory right?

    Not my wish exactly, Ginge
I’ve never been too bothered about ratings
they are set in sand not stone and different beaches produce different sand
you could see that Rosallion wasn’t far behind at Newmarket and Hannon always where possible gets a run into them. He wasn’t race fit. A race fit Rosallion wins the 2000 guineas therefore in my view had Notable Speech ran to his best yesterday Rosallion beats him
