Just announced by Nicky
November 13, 2016 at 11:59 #1272439It’s sort of a shame, but off the back of an unexpectedly wonderful season last year, one has to be happy really.

November 13, 2016 at 12:00 #1272441Sad we won’t see him race again but great that he’s going out at the top. It would have been awful to see him plod round as age catches up, or worse, get injured. A privilege to see him and I wish him a long and happy retirement
November 13, 2016 at 12:03 #1272442Heat detected in leg this week
Good decision
Spectacular at his best. Great that he finishes safe and with a last Champion Chase under his belt
November 13, 2016 at 12:09 #1272443We were treated to an amazing season with him last season which lets be honest was one huge bonus. I don’t think anyone can complain about him retiring as a champion, he deserves that.
Incredible horse, lets hope he has a long and happy retirement.
November 13, 2016 at 12:12 #1272448His looks matched his ability
Happy retirement Sprinter
A great job Nicky did with him to get him back at a very high level after his heart problem to end up winning the Champion Chase, I am happy I was there.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 13, 2016 at 12:22 #1272451One of those that’ll be remembered for their lifetime by all who saw him. Echo all the comments above.
Long and happy retirement to him.
November 13, 2016 at 12:36 #1272461The MEGABEAST’s annihilation of the Tingle Creek in 2012 was, I thought, the single most aweinspiring performance I would ever see at a racecourse.
But that was until I beheld The MEGABEAST’s Vengeance Over Those Who Had Wronged Him at Cheltenham this year.
Had The MEGABEAST not been injured, one can only attempt to fathom the sheer amount of Destructitude he would have wreaked upon his rivals.
I wish him a long and happy retirement, though I suspect his greatest joy is Crushing Those Who Would Dare Oppose Him.
Greatest Two Mile Chaser ever? Who Can Even Dare Challenge The MEGABEAST?

So don't run, just like the others always do
November 13, 2016 at 12:37 #1272462I hadn’t seen this post, and when Nick Luck announced it on C4 racing, my
stomach sank. What a magnificent horse he was, I’m happy to see that he
will enjoy his well earned retirement, but I will miss him.November 13, 2016 at 12:39 #1272463I remember telling everyone I knew to back Sprinter Sacre for the following year’s Arkle after he had run third in the 2011 Supreme Novices but there was no way I could have foreseen just how good he would become. Not only did Sprinter have the looks and the class, he also jumped a fence as fluently as any horse I’ve seen and he knew how to dig in and battle- although it was several years until he actually had to do so, such was his superiority.
A true great of the National Hunt scene, I wish Sprinter Sacre a long and happy retirement.
November 13, 2016 at 13:05 #1272467Gutted that we wont see him again on track. But in a week where we lost other horses in the worst possible way atleast the Champ can enjoy his retirement.
Give me my best moments in racing. Happy retirement Champ.November 13, 2016 at 13:12 #1272470Bit sad that he won’t run again, but also think it’s the right decision for the horse. I’m not sure how he could top last season anyway.
Hope he has a long and happy retirement.
November 13, 2016 at 13:28 #1272473A true gargantuan of a chaser and superlative champion. Deserves a long and peaceful retirement.
Sprinter contested in some memorable races and his natural ability was jaw-dropping and mesmerizing to watch. For me though, the race that will be forever etched in my mind was when he brutally ripped the sting out of the fierce Un De Sceaux in the Queen Mother Champion Chase this year for a tear-jerking victory. To add insult to injury, he crushed the same rival later on in the Celebration Chase. It was the ultimate birdie to all those who put a line through his comeback.
Had he not retired, I still think he was the only horse around to put the dent in Douvan’s reputation.
November 13, 2016 at 13:52 #1272477Own up: I can’t be the only one who had a tear in their eye watching Sprinter parade at Cheltenham just now.

I cried I admit it.
November 13, 2016 at 14:45 #1272499An even harder day for Nicky, and all at Seven Barrows, with the untimely
demise of Simonsig. It can be a hard sport, commiserations to all.November 13, 2016 at 15:00 #1272503An even harder day for Nicky, and all at Seven Barrows, with the untimely
