    About Us

Originally founded on 30th April 1859, Sporting Life established the UK’s first multi-sports website on 20th December 1996 as a companion to the historic sporting newspaper.

Though the last printed edition of The Sporting Life rolled off the presses on May 12th 1998; the name, great content and core values of the newspaper very much live on in sportinglife.com.

The site has gone on to thrive in the last decade as a firm favourite for millions of sports fans around the world looking for accurate, immediate and impartial sporting information.

    —————————————————————-

If the site is accurate, then why are –

    the race DISTANCES bollocks.

no clue if the race is FLAT, HURDLE or CHASE.

no clue as to the GRADE of race.

no clue as to the handicap for entries ie ( 0-80 ).

The RP site may be bad but it leaves this site standing for accuracy.

    Verdict
Just the eight from Nicholashayne to consider and we’ll plump for PIRAYA ahead of Big Eared Fran and Andytown. Big Eared Fran is partnered by the yard’s conditional and won very easily on his handicap bow at the weekend which leaves him looking very well handicapped. He was fancied for the bumper last year but didn’t fire there and has taken a while to get his act together over hurdles; he has now and has a clear chance. Mamlook has some big handicap form to his name but he has been below par in two visits here so has something to prove on that front. Penn Da Benn has turned over a new leaf and could still be open to plenty of improvement but his two wins were achieved in small fields. Faltering Fullback is interesting back up in trip with cheekpieces fitted whilst Carrickboy is better than he showed last time and enters calculations with his yard enjoying a good week. Quartz De Thaix was favourite for the race won by Big Eared Fran last Saturday and it’s interesting to see him turned out again quickly after that disappointment. Andytown has something to prove after disappointing runs over fences and hurdles but he had looked very promising when winning here in October and shouldn’t be dismissed. Little Shilling has had a remarkable year but this is surely asking too much and we’ll opt for Piraya who was tipped up to win a valuable chase here in November. The yard was out of form then and when he took a heavy fall at Ascot in December but there was a lot more to like about his run in the Racing Post Chase last month. He’s completely unexposed over hurdles and is 10lbs lower than when he began the season which makes Piraya worth an interest.

Sporting Life get their data from the Press Association (and are not alone in doing so).

Please don’t get me started on the accuracy of PA data.

The Sporting Life tipsters are pretty good.

I also think their coverage of racing is excellent. OK – a few data mistakes – but they really have enthusiasm for the sport and the punting side of it. Live shows, quick results etc

I see that SportingLife are now highlighting last year’s winner on the racecard.

Of what use is this new information ?

Better to to get their existing data correct !

I keep informing them of their mistakes. Perhaps they think that many races can be run at 5 seconds / furlong.

    W*****s.

Did Sportinglife sack you Quadrilla – you seem to have something against them?

I like the site. I find it the easiest of all the online racing sites to use for form study, news, results and more importantly speed and cost. I quite welcome the extra info in terms of showing last years winner and I really dont mind if some of the descriptions of distances and race titles are slightly wrong.

Occasionally I geta litte but annoyed when the Sporting Life omit races a horse has run in abroad but overall I find it better easier to study form than the Racing Post…..The fact they show bets struck on horses helps in the sense it gives you an idea whether a horses was fancied or not last time it ran.

This carry on of the Racing Post now charging to read a horses form hasn’t gone down very well with internet punters. Perhaps it’s something they had to do to keep profits up but in the long run it could backfire on them and hit them hard. People logging on for the first time looking for racing sites who find the RP and Sporting Life will stick with the SL simply because it’s free.

He is referring to the lack of information in a horse’s lifetime form – eg – the lack of very basic information as to whether a race was run over hurdles or fences is shocking.

    Hi Fist

I’ve not got a problem with the information shown – basic and accurate.

    I would however have liked to also see " (0-120, 4yo+) 16 fences 2 omitted ".

I do have a problem with some other races tho’.

I have never worked for SportingLife ( corrected from SportingLive ) but I have been a top data computer specialist for over 35 years. I would be embarassed and mortified to produce some of the SportingLife data – if data is not correct, then don’t show it.

As I have already stated, I tell SportingLife ( corrected from SportingLive ) their mistakes but they don’t pay any notice. I would be prepared to continue monitoring and checking their data, at no cost – there is no way that they could match my current salary

Other that that SportingLife is a fabulous site and the one that keeps my data base of every race up-to-date.

I agree that the betting values are invaluable.

Sorry to be a pedant, but the RP don’t charge you for looking at a horse’s form. They simply charge you for the pleasure of reading what their experts write.
