Fatally injured in the cross country race at Punchestown today.
April 29, 2021 at 20:13 #1538638Saw him go over the last fence ok – but the Sporting Life results have him as slipped up.
Why are there two cross-country races at this festival? A few slipped up on the tight bends in both races – the ground must have been rubbish.
Still, nothing will happen.
April 29, 2021 at 20:20 #1538640Have just commented on the Youcannotbeserious thread that the banks races at Punchestown have not been a pretty sight this week, with horses slipping up on Tuesday and again today. Others have come perilously close to the same fate as Youcannotbeserious and now poor Some Neck too.
I don’t recall this being an issue in previous years, does anyone have any idea what is different this year?
I can’t see why there shouldn’t be multiple cross-country races at the same meeting – nobody questions why there are multiple hurdle races. However, that is only if they are not inherently more risky than any other race.
RIP Some Neck, a very sad loss.
April 29, 2021 at 20:28 #1538643He is listed as SU but Richard Forristal’s race report says that he collapsed and died on the run to the line so may well have had nothing to do with the ground but agree they seriously need to sort out the racing surface on the bends, it’s just dangerous.
April 29, 2021 at 20:29 #1538644Racing Post comments seem to suggest he ran a very strange race: Prominent, chased leaders when took wrong route until switched left and hit rail and brought to standstill after 10th, soon detached in rear, recovered after 21st, mistake and pecked on landing 29th, ridden 4 out, slipped up after last (op 3/1)
Punchestown hasn’t been easy to watch … far too many struggling to keep their feet …
Another sad end after jumping all the varied fences and running 4 miles+ … - AuthorPosts
