You know the one.
Why oh why is this nonsense getting nonstop coverage over here? Why are normally sane people waking up at 3am to watch it? I actually don’t mind the royals, but come on. It’s not a sporting event.
If you’re in London for the festivities, please kick an American "journalist" in the head for me. Thanks.
Actually, don’t do that. Kick one of the Westboro Baptist Church people in the head for me. They don’t have Supreme Court protection over there!
April 29, 2011 at 18:27 #352723I’m no monarchist, but I thought the whole thing played rather well and those interviewed on TV who moaned about the event came across as right curmudgeonly gits.
Kate did look rather fetching; I’d be happy to exchange bodily fluids with her!
April 29, 2011 at 19:14 #352731Being neither a monarchist nor a republican frankly I couldn’t give a damn; but if these occasions are your sort of thing, then the English can still be relied upon to supply the last word in pomp, circumstance, ceremony and pageantry
It was all carried-off in the most immaculate slightly understated manner one would expect, so other than also supplying the last word in Best Bitter and Best Brown Flake, let those who relish the chance to revel in something else our otherwise rather second-rate little country does best do just that
The Monarchy is the opium of the people

You can’t be neither monarchist nor republican.
There is no other system, regardless of the various types of functionality of parliament around the globe.April 30, 2011 at 06:42 #352769To clarify: I’m neither a
M
onarchist nor a
R
epublican i.e I’m not strongly for one and against the other
If pushed I’d side with the British system: an elected government that exercises its power over the people allied to a figurative unelected irrelevant
de jure
‘royal family’ that provides the majority of the populace, it seems, with comfort, succour and joy

All Weddings/Civil Partnerships should be a happy joyous time for all involved and they certainly seemed to pull that off – good luck to the happy couple.
April 30, 2011 at 08:55 #352781I thought everything about it was perfect; William is the same age as my son, so when his mum died I felt [along with every other mother of a son at the time] that he was somehow ‘mine’, and, after seeing him at the funeral all I’ve ever wanted is for him to be happy. It’s a hormone thing, I guess. I never watch weddingy things on the telly, and if I do see anything wedding related it’s with a ‘they’ll be divorced in two years, you wait’ attitide…but I shed quite a few tears yesterday. It was all so tasteful.
April 30, 2011 at 21:02 #352968I read that 40% of Americans polled said they were very interested in the wedding, while 20% of Brits said the same thing.

Did anyone see the loose horse during the parade? That was a little scary.
I really liked Kate’s dress, though. Nice and simple.
